Windows 10 bricked my all-in-one HP desktop

This Sat I have checked my desktop compatibility etc, and went ahead with upgrading my HP ENVY 23-d227ea TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC (ENERGY STAR) to Windows 10.
I now have black screen. Fan works, and that's it.
I've disconnected everything apart from the USB keyboard, but still can't get BIOS menu up. Black screen. I took the harddrive out and backed the data up.
So I ran up HP, and because my desktop is out of warranty, they want to charge £175 for repairs. Microsoft keeps passing me from one department to another. Dead end.
What are my options? I can't believe a software update can brick the machine just like this and no responsibility is taken by Microsoft.

When you turn on do you get any beeps? Is it maybe the monitor that has failed or become unplugged. If, when you turn it on, and you have tried pressing Del. F8. F2 or whatever your key combination is for Safe Mode and it doesn't work, looks like monitor.0

Thanks,
When I remove RAM, I get beeps, screen remains black.
When I put the RAM back, screen remains black, no beeps.
The monitor is connected, I have checked the motherboard connection. It's all in one desktop.
Tried F10, F5, F12, Esc and every F key. No joy
This desktop has no video output, so no chance getting another monitor connected[apart from getting those USB to HDMI adapters which i am planning to]
I was also interested in legal aspect of this matter. Microsoft accepts no liability for bricking my machine... even though i did compatibility checks before the update.0 -

>> Thats right .

>> As the update is no problem for millions and each machine is individual . MS are hardly going to accept responsibility . If you pushed them they will probably point to all the successful updates on identical machines .
Cannot see it as a brick rather its a failed update and a shrewd guess is failed video card drivers / video card .
Can you fit a PS2 mouse as that may enable you to reach the BIOS .0 -
Thx, the machine only has USB ports, so can't do PS2 mouse
My machine is not even customised, just a standard build with hardly any extra software apart from Chrome browser, so really no clue how it passed their compatibility test etc, and bricked like that. I've found few links with similar issues other HP users are having.
Microsoft tech support is terrible, they keep passing me from one department to another, I am so tired now.0 -
I had the same with an HP/Compaq so I removed the ram and hard drive. Anyway, a couple of days later I put it all back and lo and behold, it worked again. I do remember removing the bios battery and re-seating it.
One thing you can try is pressing and holding shift while starting.0 -

I see OP yesterday posted a 1* review on Amazon.co.uk for the same problem. Thorough.
I can see no means by which a Windows 10 upgrade can stop a PC finishing POST checks in the BIOS, although it could corrupt a UEFI partition.
OP, have you tried pulling the CMOS battery out for 30 mins, then restarting?0 -

You'll note that one intrepid user did finally manage to get in, but it clearly wasn't easy.

PErhaps OP should try starting without the HD in , since he has the proficiency to remove the ram ?

I just checked your model on the HP compatibility upgrade to windows 10 page http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/windows10/upgrade.html# and it came back with this,
HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.
If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10.
First, ensure you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.0
