Should I inform insurance?

Broken and hanging loose doesn't automatically mean the driver could see nothing.
And the OP clearly stated that he had just pulled out of the junction on the left.
The chances of the van driver not knowing the OP was there all along are minimal.0 -
FYI, reported to insurance who took the incident info and set the claim to closed, only to be reopened if the 3rd party raises a claim or if he refuses to pay for the repair. Won't affect my new policy with another insurer as an ongoing or previous claim (paid for new policy in full already, starting Apr 25th).
Let's hope he'll pay upStarted 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

(If you haven't told your new insurer about the claim, then you must do so! This claim will be on your record and must be disclosed to any other insurers you approach for quotes over the next 3/5 years depending on the length of history they require))0 -
Did your new insurer tell you this claim won't affect your new policy?

Hey Quentin, I asked the analyst I was speaking to if I need to notify my new insurer and they said no, as it's currently recorded as informational only. Anyone know any reason that might not be true?Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

When you take out a policy, you are always asked if you have any accidents, incidents or claims, and although what you had didn't result in a claim, it's still an accident.
It's very important that you tell insurers of anything such as this to avoid them refusing to pay out for your losses following any future claim. (they still have to cover third parties, but can refuse to pay out to cover your losses.)0 -
Seems odd that my current insurers would suggest otherwise, but I'll query it with the new insurers anonymously and after it's fully resolved before I make any move to inform them of the details.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0

They gave you dangerously incorrect information which if you follow could result in you having a future policy cancelled (which has long term consequences, and could be life changing for you - should they void your policy after a third party claim against you, when they would come to you to reimburse ay payment to a third party - think of the possible consequences of a massive compensation claim!)0 -
What was the "analyst" analysing for you??

Thanks for subtly pointing out my error in calling the person I spoke to an "Analyst", when in fact I don't know what the specific job title of an employee is in their claims department. They queried all of the details of the event and the 3rd party's information.
As mentioned above, I will be notifying the new insurer once the event is resolved, which will be long before the start date of the new policy.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

The point is that the person who advised you didn't know what they were talking about!
Advise your new insurer now so that if they should want to make any alteration to your premium on discovering you have made a "mistake" on your application you have time to shop around for the best deal using your correct history!0
