He had just turned out of the road on the left so if he checked if anyone was coming before exiting the road he will have seen me. The junction on the right is no entry but he wasn't local and may not have seen that either. I believe he was backtracking and lost myself!

My cam is the Transcend 100, paid 65quid on amazon. The sticky pads are a nightmare to remove but they sell a separate suction mount.

Also I coloured in the silver bits on the front so it's less visible in the window to thieves.

Also to add, the video quality was reduced after uploading to photobucket, original file is much better.

  • I would recommend that you edit your first post to remove those links. The picture has links to other albums, one of which reveals your full name.
  • thanks for the heads up lee, I don't mind sharing info but I've removed all other files from my bucket anyway

I did indeed Chris, I offered to send him the footage in the event it turns in to a claim. It should almost definitely stop him trying to counter the claim or try for shared responsibility.
Why didn't you just go round him?

I don't think anybody would have considered going round the red van in the time the incident took to occur.

The fact that the view ahead was blocked by the van and there was a bus stop on the left (or it looks like a bus stop) would make me think the driver had stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross.

The OPs positioning also meant the driver of the van would have clearly seen them in the right hand mirror.

If the Red van had just pulled out in front of the OP then done this I feel it is likely a crash for cash scam, as the OPs vehicle is newish and relatively valuable being a Polo, or at least the front bumper looks like a newish Polo.

Well you can see it's clear before he crosses the stop line and the van is braking before he passes the keep clear. It's either offside and pass or hold well back.

Hey Silver, I noticed he was slowing down despite no traffic being in front of him, and I came to a stop as quickly and safely as I judged the situation required (you can see my car rock forward as I stop). Someone reversing in this situation is not necessarily predictable and avoidable after making the judgement I did.

You can also see the pedestrian, you can't see what is in front of he van.

The van could have stopped because a child's ball had rolled in front and was being chased by the child.

The OP was offset and the van driver had to have seen the car in the right mirror.

Overtaking slower moving cars is not a requirement, you can chose not to overtake if you think the road may not be clear.

There's no doubt the OP got sucked in there.

The van's right hand mirror appears to be broken and hanging loose. The OP also says that in the first post.

I doubt if the van driver could see anything useful it.

I did make sure he knew I had a dash cam so I think he'd be a bit mental to try that :rotfl:

Shame he knew, as if he was doing a fraudulent claim, the insurer could have caught him out.

Makes me want to do get a camera more than ever now after watching it
