I think that I will say that it was impossible to be available for interviews and do my previous job at the same time due to the workload. For example I was interviewing for a role recently where I had to go through a number of recruitment stages before the final interview. It would have been impossible to do that if I was still at my previous job.0

Its very hard when you are working to take time away from work to do telephone interviews and then take time off work at a moment notice to go to job interviews. This is what I need to put across in my interviews and be able to back it up with my previous role.
If you are not available for interviews then the employer will just move on to other candidates who can attend a interview right away that's the way the job market is.0 -
Unfortunately, you're going to come up against the fact that virtually all the other candidates will have managed to apply and get to the interview stage whilst holding down professional jobs. This may call your time management and problem solving skills into question.0

When the intwrviewer asks you when you are available to start the role do you say immediately? Or do you tell them April as that's how long you want you break to.be?
If it's the former then this may be why they are not considering you for the roles?
If I were i your position I would possibly state that you left your previous job in order to train and find the perfect role which you could then start immediately without having to give notice to another employer. You could use this excuse to say to the interviewer that you believe "this" role is the perfect role for you?0 -
How do other people get around this in job interviews?
Thinking about it I've always gone for something different whether that be role or company type
Eg I understand it could look fairly suss going telesales to telesales as an example
The companies that probe really, often have something to hide themselves or are required to due to business sensitivity
I've always been told that employers aren't to hear about financial matters, whether good or bad, it's just one of the conversation routes you never steer toward

I've never done this and neither has anybody else I know. It's just so obviously going to land yourself exactly where you are now and likely to lead to a long period of unemployment, I'm afraid.0 -
i have done it. I'm an accountant, first time I say I took voluntary redundancy and decided to have a break before job hunting. After that I just prefer to say I like a break between projects. Its not an issue, plenty of contractors do that.0

Theres nothing wrong with a career break. Nobody knows the OPs circumstances of why a break was taken financially or emotionally. I'd play it as a "career break", state you wanted a change in direction or time to concentrate on other projects/self-improvement. Think of all the actors out there who have "breaks between films", are they "unemployed?" - no, its called enjoying the fruits of ones labour.0
