I have some fine wrinkles on my forehead in the morning after washing my face, but when i've used cream they're gone a few hours later. I have some a few mm under my lower eyelid, but I had those as a child.

I have extremely sensitive skin and a sun sensitivity, so since being a very young child I have moisturised daily and used a sun block, but really I think most people skin is their genes and lifestyle more than lotions and potions.

The comedian Josie Long advises "stay chubby, don't wash your face!" - working for me so far at 33 - I got ID'd a couple of weeks ago and my younger sister (only 2.5 years younger) claims to have more lines than me. But she is slimmer too and more of a party animal.

I also have friends who spend a small fortune on lotions and potions and have half-hour beauty regimes every night, but I don't think it's made any difference, they don't look any younger than me with my wash & go routine. The only way to know would be to just look after one side of your face and compare the results, but no one seems willing to try that!

Do we need to define the difference between a line and a wrinkle?
  • I don't worry about this kind of thing too much - in my mind wrinkles show you've laughed a lot.. so I definitely have :)

Having said I don't worry about it much I'm strangely chuffed I don't have any greys yet at 42 :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Totally with you on that... I'd rather use my money on doing fun stuff with the kids and paying my mortgage off than on lotions and potions that may or may not work.

I've had my lines triggered by eyebrow movement & by laughter so long I couldn't tell you *when* they arrived, o Spinkz.
However, I swear by mashed potato as a dermal filler. Put on a few happy pounds, laugh more than you frown & you'll not need to worry til you hear someone screwing down a coffin lid as you nap.

I'm 45 and starting to get jowls and hooded eyes.. strangely though, even though I think I look old, people tend to think I'm in my mid to late 30's. . Always makes my day :)

I'm 60 and pretty wrinkle free. I've always looked after my skin. No soap and water, take my make up off every night and moisturise like mad. Believe it or not this comes from when I was a child and my mother had a skin condition that made her skin look like snake scales. Add that to an 8 year old into Greek, Roman and any other mythology and it was pretty scary. I swore as a teenager I would never end up with skin like that. The grey hair is a whole other ball game effectively covered by dye!
  • It does not matter. Grow old gracefully. Enjoy life. Do not get nurotic. I had a friend like you who always panicked about lines, wrinkles, etc etc, she spent a fortune on creams and other stuff but it made no difference. She was in need of help but I didn't realise it at the time. So please, relax - everyone is different and people do not study your face for lines - especially not at your very young age!

I was about 27 I think and they were on the corners of my mouth. They're more pronounced now at 35 but nothing major. I have a small crinkle between eyebrows when I frown too. Again, nothing major. I have found I get quite a number of eye wrinkles just when I smile these days so that's disappointing but I'm not going to stop smiling and laughing just for vanity's sake.

It is very dependent on your weight as well. If you're of slim build you will show the wrinkles up, despite being a healthy body weight. If you're overweight they won't all show up because they're being 'filled out', despite you being an unhealthy weight.

    You can't win!

I had my first white hair at age 21, plucked it & saved in an evelope. Recently moved and found it again. Now that I am 58 I don't have any dark hair at all, even 'tache is white & ginger (Scottish mother?)
    Proud to be white!
