Ditched Sky, but can't get freesat to work

We ditched Sky as it was too expensive and just bought a Humax Freesat box.
I just connected to same sky cables (twin cables) to the box, and used the HDMI cable which came with the box instead of our Scart lead, but can't get it to work. The only cables I am using are these two plus the plug.
The green light is on the box but the telly is just rustly (no sound no vision).
Any ideas? Our telly is very old.
Thanks.

Sounds like an issue with the cable between the TV and foxsat box, perhaps try it using an old fashioned aerial cable, or composite video?0

Hi Jonesya, yes I think that it could be the cable. What is a composite video? I'll take a look and see what other cables we have, unfortunately there isn't a scart connection on new box.0

does your saterlite dish need to point to another direction..just a guess“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Thanks for your help. Sky was working just now, but would the new box mean we needed to change the direction of satelite?
I'm starting to think it's the lead as there is nothing at all and I just read about some issues with the HDMI cable in older tellys. (http://www.freesat.co.uk/help/got-freesat/fix-a-problem/tv-hdmi-issues).0 -
It's unlikely to be the satellite dish or cables, even if these weren't working you'd expect to see the on screen display of the sat box. The freesat signals come from the same satellites as Sky, you shouldn't need to do anything with the dish if it was working OK before.0

So I assume then that it is as you said before the HDMI lead that connects telly to box.
I'll have to take it back to the shop and get one that uses a different/scart connector.

Have you run the auto tune on the Freesat box?
Or it could be that the Humax HDMI doesn't want to play nicely with your brand of TV. I once had to return a Humax Freeview box because sound would cut out completely with my Sony TV using the HDMI cable.0 -

No the satellite is in the same position.
My brother had FreeSat on a 1.2m dish which was also connected to a Sky box. No special Lnb needed.
You do realize that you can have more than one satellite near the same position but broadcasting down to one spot on the earth.
The old Sky position at 19 degrees east had 4 Astra satellites serving that position.
