  • This is obviously an problem on Windows 10. I could not download Open office 4.1.2 and had to re-download Open Office 4.1.1 which is working fine. It appears to me there are several issues regarding downloads through Windows 10 as I could not download Libre Office as an alternative. there is a separate post on this issue. there is nothing on Microsoft's website about how to correct on either of the above.

It seems a bit odd that Win10 can download one program but not another - a program is just a binary file, after all, unless a separate downloader program is used rather than a direct download. If I remember correctly, my OpenOffice download didn't use a downloader program.

Is it possible that antivirus software is standing in the way?

Although OpenOffice was once king of the free office suites, for many people it has been surpassed by LibreOffice. The two suites were originally based on the same source code although LibreOffice is now a much more polished looking and feature rich product. LibreOffice is free and it will be completely compatible with your earlier OpenOffice documents. Suggest you instill LibreOffice :)

Yes, I have heard that elsewhere - just haven't got round to it.

But an earlier post suggests Win10 causes problems downloading/installing LibreOffice too.

It all sounds a bit odd to me. (Still on Win8.1 myself)

I can't say I've come across any issues with downloading and installing LlibreOffice on Windows 10, or indeed on Windows 8 / 8.1 systems...that said, there's always a first time. If OpenOffice isn't working for you, then go ahead and try LibreOffice. It's free, it's fully compatible with your OpenOffice files, and it's a more polished programme.
  • I also receive error code 2503 when trying to download the update version of Open office 4-1-2. The older edition works fine. What is the relevance of Code 2503

Just replace OpenOffice with Libre Office. Most of the developers of Open Office jumped ship to Libre Office years ago. Libre Office is great for working with MS office files.
