  • Why Is open Office 4.1.1 still showing under live programs in my Control Panel. MY immediate concern is to be able to get into the documents in my Open office documents and amend where required. How do i do this action please.I can think about installing something different once this has been done provided I can still access my Open office files.

Your files will still be there wherever you saved them. Once you've chosen your new Office program - whether it be Open Office, Libre Office or any of the other alternatives you can open and edit them as before.

You could try opening OpenOffice via the Run box:

    Windows key + r
type "soffice" or "swriter" both without the quotes

If that doesn't work I would try reinstalling 4.1.1 from the link given above - it seems like there's something wrong with the 4.1.2 install script.

Personally I prefer OpenOffice to LibreOffice, having tried them both. I know LO is now on a faster development path, but I've found a few functions which I use a lot work better in OO.

Another thought: You could right-click on an existing OO document and see if you have the option to open it that way.
  • Like others the problem occurred when I downloaded the new version of Open Office. It seemed to download without a problem but it does not appear anywhere. it knocked out Open office 4.1.1 which is still showing in the Control panel as a live program but has disappeared from my Desk Top. So surely it must be up and running somewhere but where is it hidden and how to I access it. There must be answer somewhere.
  • Since I completed the System Restore on my PC due to problems on the stop and search being frozen in Windows 10 my Open Office connection has disappeared whilst still being visible in My control panel program. It no longer shows on my desk Top either I have tried downloading both the original version and new version 4.1.2 both despite looking if it has downloaded nothing actually happens. How can i go about reinstalling it appears for some reason for all downloads to Open Office being block.Any advise or suggestions please.

Have a look on your start menu to see if it's listed there. If it is then copy the start menu icon to the desktop.

It would not seem that Open Office installation is being blocked somehow, but I cannot find where and how to correct. as an alternative I tried installing Libre Office and that came up with error code 2503 . Could the same apply to the open office download although no warning appears on screen. Any help that will enable me to download one or the other will be an absolute "Godsend" to get me out of my predicament of what to do next.

You could try disabling your antivirus before starting the installation. Scan the downloaded file first. Don't forget to re-activate your AV after the installation.

Op has IE's stupid 'Smart'Screen turned on, so has little chance of downloading anything successfully.
