argh - forgotten 0% period!

I switched a balance to a Barclaycard in Jan 2015 - but I've forgotten how long the 0% period was for.
I've searched back through all the emails I've had from them, and all my statements, but there's not a mention of how long the 0% is for anywhere.
I've made very good progress paying off my balance but I need to know how long I've got left on this deal so I can work out whether I need to switch some of the remainder to another card soon.

Does anyone know how you can find this info out?
thanks

    Ring them ?
  • Call them or you can send messages from the credit card online site. They usually reply in a day or two.

It is also detailed on page 2 of your statement, underneath your transactions.

    You're welcome.
  • Assuming all Barclaycard statements have a similar design.....

After the 'Your Transactions' section. There is another section 'Interest and Charges'

In this section my statement says 'Interest 0% to Jan 2017'

So if you have a promotional rate the 'end date' should be recorded in the 'Interest and Charges' section

Generally, though...why don't credit card companies make this information clear on the statements/accounts?
MBNA clearly states when the promotional period ends, but many others do not.
Tesco credit card statement even has a column for "expiry" at the end, which is left blank

It would take little IT effort to ensure the date was always there, but of course there is a perverse incentive for the credit card companies not to make this info very clear....

as above, it should be on your statement
but calling them will be easy, and they will be able to tell you quickly.
they offer lots of different deals over time, of course, but if you have paid a fee then it is likely to be a good while off yet, so hopefully no panic for you.. up to 37months currently on offer:lovethoug

Perverse or not, they are required to remind people. From the Lending Code (my emphasis):

    122. If a credit card has an introductory promotional rate the expiry date of the introductory promotional offer should be shown on the front of the statement or in a separate, prominent personal notification to the customer. This should be given between four and eight weeks before the offer expires.

Personally I've always found these notifications clear enough as the offer comes up for expiry. Indeed the expiries of offers I've had running are shown every month through the duration of the offer.

I suppose the problem is that people sign DDs, sit back and relax, and never bother to check their statements. Then they moan when they get caught out. (Obviously not the case with the OP.)

why wasn't your first port of call to phone them?!

The OP asked how to find out..... and people have provided answers.

IMHO, calling is not the best solution. It can take time and you don't have a record of the answer. Staff can make mistakes, people mishear etc. You could still end up in a dispute.

Far better if you can find it written down somewhere (ie the statement). Failing that, a secure message is a good way. Then, you'll get a written answer which you can rely on.
