Sorry I have come across wrong...

I'm trying to say that if a thief/scammer says that paypal is too technical,, then they are a thief/scammer.

I'm not advocating paypal at all.. I am saying that that the OP's buyer is so wrong as too have every raised hair on the back of my neck screaming... how OBVIOUS does it have to be...

Erm... my mum can't figure paypal. Admittedly she's in her 60s. (edited to add I know some very technically minded 60yr olds - just not mum)

It takes her the best part of half an hour to write an email or txt, and finding something on ebay is a full evening experience!

Neither is obvious from the other-side of the exchange.

She either emails/messages people to arrange payment via bank transfer/credit card/cheque, or calls me to pay using my account.

Very money saving of her as I don't generally get/ask for the money back - I'm sure it's normally the other way round between kids and parents :rotfl:
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

House Bought July 2020 - 19 years 0 months remaining on term
Next Step: Bathroom renovation booked for January 2021
Goal: Keep the bigger picture in mind...
  • From what I understand of the buyer having spoken to her and her partner:

She saw a very expensive piece of an artist at her friends home. ..so how she stumbled on the listing (mine was much much cheaper due to scale etx). Then saw my other items related and liked them so fancied them as job lot.
She's started a business and couple clients have paid her in artwork. She appeared a bit clueless about what she was buying from me. The art gifted to her gone up in value
So, sounds like a mix of taking a large punt in the hope it may go up and wanting to align herself with her friend with the same artist.
    Or just liking it all.
Either way, I'm happy. Hundreds of pounds shifted in one evening ...some of which I had reduced and needed shifting.
  • She's even interested in couple other bits I have.
  • You know when it feels like Christmas has come early. ..?
I was actually stressing last night about over draft I wanted to clear. ..24 hours later after weeks of stressing...!

I'm holding fire with another sale to her in case I get a nasty call from my bank though...
  • How does it feel to speak to the thief that is about to con you??.

"don't have PayPal as they're not technical" but they are technical enough to use the internet....

c'mon wake up and smell the bull's brown stuff....

    What were you saying?:T

Soolin you misread my post or i didnt put it clearly.

But if i was on holiday and someone else used my details fraudulently. Then who loses?

Not me sending money then going away. Similar to people coming back to find they have been burgled and cars stolen and their houses used to sell items etc.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • Course not you idiot. They've would be transferring several hours before and I'd be calling the bank before the goods are released. Been ebay and pay pal longer than you ie 14 years just not been in this situation.

Did I read that correctly or is that how you really speak to people?

No you didn't misread. Is middle England / you offended or do you live in a bubble and not with everyday people.

To answer your question : only ones that insinuate others as 'being stupid enough'. He wasn't offended, nor should you be. If you are, don't use the Internet - there's far worse out there.

It is possible for people to be lax with their security or fall for a phishing scam, the banks will cover you unless they believe you were at fault by allowing someone access to your bank details or were at fault in some way. Realistically though in this modern age of passwords and security questions and even those card PIN generator things it is difficult to see how anyone can accidentally get your details, then access your bank account and then send money to themselves. I would suspect you are much more likely to have issues via a cloned card or by something dodgy at an ATM- to get into your bank account is pretty difficult.

As usual though the advice would be if you feel your online or telephone banking is not secure then get advice immediately about adding in perhaps a further level of security.

As for your burglary analogy I suspect that if you leave your front door open and your keys in the car then your likely to have issues with your insurance company and might not be covered. It's just the same really, keep your self safe by using the security that is there for your benefit.

Did I say I was offended?

It's not the most civil way to reply to people who have helped you with a query.

I don't really understand 'is middle England', is it a statement or a question? Or perhaps just the way you speak?
