can bank transfers be reversed?

I have someone interested in a few bits I'm selling. They're not on the forum, bbut have sseen items on eBay.
They're not big ticket but want to take the job lot - several hundred pounds worth.. But they don't appear to know anything about any of the artists I'm selling, bar one. Which is slightly odd. They'd heard of one which is one they were initially interested in because a friend had a similar thing. Without much selling on my behalf, they would like to take more items than what they were interested in. They've been on ebay a little while but don't have PayPal as they're not technical? They said they'd always done cash deals or bank transfers. I just spoke to them on the phone.
I am planning a deal but slightly para about if I should just ask for cash or bank transfer and if the latter can be reversed..or even fake notes.
It's just alarm bells someone decorating their house with things they've never really hears of. I buy and sell art a bit and people usually have a good knowledge.

No a bank transfer can't be reversed but you do need to log into your bank to check the money is actually there in the first place.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Well, I would disagree.
If the payee pays into your account using a stolen cheque, the deposit will 'show' on your account but within the 6 days a cheque has to clear, it would be reversed.
If you want to be certain about a BT clearing into your account, you need to ensure it is a cash payment when paid in. Check with your bank direct.0 -

How does it feel to speak to the thief that is about to con you??.
"don't have PayPal as they're not technical" but they are technical enough to use the internet....

That's not a bank transfer though, that's a deposit into your account0 -
So what do I do? We're talking £800.
Cash or bank transfer? They've willing suggested 50% deposit today. They have 100% feedback that I can see but no recent transactions. Deal would be face to face.
I could ask 400 today and 400 tomorrow and they are flexible when to meet but thinking Sunday eve.
I've been on ebay a decade. It's just something doesn't seem right
On ebay they didn't sign off with their name or Mention it on the phone. I only have their number and that they're female.0 -

Take a BT deposit and cash on collection.
Happy days, no fees, no chance of reversal."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

I like the way ebay has brainwashed the world into thinking Paypal is a better way to get paid than cash or free non reversable bank transfers..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

If it feels wrong then unless it was something you have been struggling to sell, then I'd turn them down and wait for a buyer you are more confident over. Regardless over how they are going to pay and what payment methods can be reversed, it is a lot of money to lose if it all goes wrong0

Sorry I have come across wrong...
I'm trying to say that if a thief/scammer says that paypal is too technical,, then they are a thief/scammer.
I'm not advocating paypal at all.. I am saying that that the OP's buyer is so wrong as too have every raised hair on the back of my neck screaming... how OBVIOUS does it have to be...0
