Curve Card

I believe this ought to be raised with Curve so they can investigate why the payment went through as a cash transaction.
The fees mentioned in Curve's terms are of course fees charged (or not) by Curve. If NatWest has unilaterally decided to start charging a cash fee on all Curve transactions in the same way that most banks charge a cash fee on bookmaker transactions, there's probably little that Curve can do about it.0 -

You misunderstand me. I'm not saying raise it with Curve so they can pursue it on behalf of the OP with the bank.
Curve's business model is based on a 'no fee for purchases or cash withdrawals (up to 200 GBP)' basis. So, if you are charged for a purchase then something has gone wrong.
Does Curve's terms say 'we are not responsible for any fee that the bank may charge (for the type of GBP transaction the OP has carried out)'? if so, do you mind pointing it out on the terms.
If the terms does state the above, Curve card holders will have to be very mindful. If it doesn't state this, Curve will have to keep their side of the deal and refund the bank charge for the OP, unless natwest had made a hash of the transaction (then they will have to refund as clearly the transaction was a purchase).0 -
I have spoken to Natwest today and they have said to me that as of the 22nt of April. The merchant code of Curve has changed, by either Curve or Mastercard, so Curve transactions are now classed as a cash transactions.
So, unless this was a mistake by Mastercard, using this against anything other than a debit card will likely result in you paying whatever cash advance fee your issuer charges. That is, I am taking it out of my wallet for now!
I am reaching out to Curve to see if they can give me any information. As it is a merchant code then I would have thought everyone will be hit (Not just Natwest users).0 -

He said that they had nothing to do with the way the classification is done and if I wanted to find out who made the change I should reach out to Mastercard or Curve.

Waiting on Curve now - wherever the change was made, it shouldn't have been made without notice surely!0 -
I've contacted Natwest too. They've got rid of all the fees up to now (and stopped interest from accruing) but they are warning that future transactions will be treated as Cash transactions unless something changes on Curve's side.

Looking at the terms on the site the mention of the £200 credit card cash has now gone - it was there over the weekend as I spoke to a friend about it after my card was sent out0 -

If they are now going to classify it as a cash transaction, they really should inform users as to the change in the T&C surely?!
FAQ still has £200 limit? https://support.imaginecurve.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005775485-Can-I-use-Curve-at-ATMs-
As does the Fair Usage Policy: https://api.imaginecurve.com/fair-use.pdf0 -
I'm 80% sure this is RBS Credit Cards' doing - the only other such report I can find is someone reporting the same with Natwest: https://twitter.com/imaginecurve/status/9902040784069509150

I've checked my Barclaycard...
The business type was 'services' and now it's showing 'stored value card purchase load'. Barclaycard are not charging for this though.
I can see why RBS would charge a cash advance fee on that!
Unless they change the business type, it's likely cash advance fees will occur with more banks as rules are updated because they are essentially saying it's a cash top-up transaction.0
