I have a few deterrents - you could try and get hold of some lion poo and sprinkle it round the garden, the smell of a large cat puts them off mind you it does pong a bit. Failing that you could go to Woolies and invest in a water gun - you can have fun then blasting the little blighters with water, it doesn't do them any harm and can be quite good fun.
  • I want good advice not stupid opinions…

My opinion (stupid or otherwise) is that you are being rude & my advice is that shouldn't be.
  • I have found something that works called Catapult the website below does it but we got ours in Sainsburys when they had their garden stuff in the summer our front garden is has lots of little grasses and lavenders and the rest of it is covered in bark chips, the night after we completed it I found cat poo in it but since I have used this stuff I havent had anymore. http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/Product-Copy.asp?iProductID=53914
  • [Not being really green-fingered,although I do try:o,is there any plants out there that cats hate-I mean the smell of the plant or too prickily??

    Just wondering[/quote]

A few of these dotted round the garden really do work!

I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • I sympathise so much and completely understand why you are expressing your problem in such strong terms. I've posted my problems before - I've got a large garden and someone next door who rescues cats! This is real advice from years of bitter experience! Sorry to be horrid and hard but ignore anything that anyone says, nothing works. Some things quoted might work in a titchy garden (or if you don't do anything but watch your garden for 24 hours at a time at the expense of everything else - water pistols for goodness sake - fine but most of the problems arise overnight). Mothballs - fanatastic - how many do you suggest for half an acre!?! To be honest, if these remedies work for you - you don't really have a problem!

One thing that has made a slight difference for me over the years is when a 'dominant' cat seems to take charge of my garden and scares the others off then you just have to deal with one of the little b*ggers pooing everywhere and digging everything up rather than several. Unfortunately with Mrs Rescue next door, new cats keep arriving and the dynamics change - in fact I can usually tell if there's a new moggie on the block!

The more expensive ultrasonics do work but only on a small section of your garden so the cats just go to the other side. And with the rain in our climate they don't last that long. It could possibly work in just one small area where the children play.

I know exactly what you are worried about and would be concerned about young children in my garden and wouldn't let a pregant woman help me garden without gloves. One thing you might do is try to avoid too much bare earth and cover young plants with garden netting or surround by spikes of bamboo.

What particularly annoys me is smug cat owners who think it is everyone else's cat that does this! I'm sorry but because your cat is doing one poo in the litter doesn't mean it is doing a whole pile more in someone else's garden! Are you letting it roam round the neighbourhood at all hours? Yes? Well it is probably causing someone else a problem! Despite being sorely tempted I wouldn't hurt one (although I have chucked the odd jug of water) but as far as I'm concerned they are absolute vermin.

I used to have lots of beautiful birds visit my garden.I got a lot of pleasure out of feeding them and loved watching the babies in spring.I also keep pond fish and have frogs in my nature pond. For 15 years i have enjoyed all this.

Then 9 months ago i got new neighbours who brought two horrible cats with them.I got an ultrasonic scarer but it doesn't seem to work. They are not frightened of my dog and only run away from me when i get near with the hosepipe in my hand.I dread the day i look out and see them with a bird, frog or fish in their mouth. It just does not seem right that they can wander where they like and cause such devastation to wildlife, and i am very very upset about it.I have very few birds come now and it has taken away all the pleasure i had.

Devastation to wildlife:rolleyes: Do you ever watch wildlife programs? I don't like to see zebra being eaten by lions, hyena etc but at the end of the day they are part of the food chain as are birds to cats. Domestic cats are still 'hunters' at heart. Get over it:mad:

Yes you may of guessed I hate people who hate cats. I fully understand mess in the garden is not nice but it really isnt hard to control. Forget all the expensive devices that are supposed to deter cats, you are wasting your money!
Cats love nothing more than open clear soil to deficate in, simply fill open space with plants, small stakes, bricks or anything and the problem is solved.
How hard is this to do?????? Obviously too hard for some of the morons posting here:mad:
