Woby_Tide wrote:as ever to be the unpopular one, this has been quite an emotive subject both here and on usenet, cat owners don't like to be seen as having no social responsibility for their pets like a dog owner has but currently the best way seems to be to plant certain Lillies which when ingested by cats is poisonous to them. So far citrus fruits/shiny materials/ water bottles and all other non-poisonous methods seemed not to have worked so I'm left with the less savoury options
if teh government was able to extend the rules top cat owners as folllowed by fdog owners it may not be so bad but whilst cat owners continue to enjoy the reduced responsibilities of ownership then so be it
But cats are only doing what comes naturally to them? It's the owners that are ultimately responsible for them as you hinted at?
I'd try out more humane suggestions. And I'm not a particular lover of cats by the way, just as some people aren't dog lovers.
And until cats are put on leads, (God & Governments forbid? Or maybe not?), it's a pest that needs controlling. But harmlessly?0 -

Heard tiger poo scares cats, but not easy to get hold of since the foot and mouth problems.

Don't be sorry
But explain why?0 -
As a responsible cat owner myself, I created a toilet under a bush in my own
garden for my three cats. I spread out bark under the bush and they love the shelter of the bush especially when its raining and periodically I lift the soiled bark and replace with fresh.
In the winter to give some colour I even use the coloured bark0 -
I have two cats and I know for sure mine don't do it in anyones garden.
I don't mind the idea of water pistols etc or foil or animal friendly remedies but please don't be cruel or harm them ....................they don't !!!!!! on your grass to wind you up ..........honest.0 -
Al_Mac wrote:Dogs are trained obedient animals, thick possibly.
Cats can't be trained and will do want they want regardless.
Thats why you used to have a dog license and not a cat license. Cat owners cant stop the cat doing what it wants.
Is there any proof that cats can't be trained though? From what I've seen they use cat litter trays ok?
Maybe it's the owners to blame after all?
(By the way - dogs aren't thick - they just do anything for food, attention, etc etc. imo
Cats are just cats - pets, and company for some people.0 -

No offence traf, but the idea of water pistols appals me. But I don't have the problem. Foil sounds ok though0 -

Message to be learned there EdLass. Change the colour of the bark0 -

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
I know they don't.
But why should clean up some else cat poo. I don't have a cat for that very reason. I don't want to clean up cat poo.
Not being funny but unless you are cats are in the house/garden 100% of the time. How do you know for sure they are not doing it some elses garden.
I would never harm a cat on purpose. But just want to discourage them from using my grass as a toilet. They have there own gardens so use them not mine.
