Lorries do use their size to intimidate car drivers. You may not do, but others certainly do.

Most of the time that's moron car drivers creating a situation that need not exist.

Because they're too stupid to recognise their own poor standard of driving, they blame it on the lorry because they've got themselves into a position where they have to brake/stop.

You're absolutely right. We did all get by before there were lorries, and we would get by again if they all disappeared overnight.

Before lorries, everything got moved about by horse & cart, barges, hand carts, or just by people carrying things unaided. Sadly, this was slow and cràp, and you wouldn't like it very much if you had to do it now. :p

You're not too bright are you?

The horse and cart was the forefather of the HGV. A HGV is basically a cart using an engine in place of the horse.

And you wouldn't get by at all if they disappeared overnight.

There was a study done by universities for the government for the effects of an all out HGV strike.

In week one, the shops were empty of food and the petrol stations empty of fuel.
In week two, it started to hit the emergency services and essential services due to vehicles running out of supplies and staff not being able to get to work.

Read this. This was the effect of the fuel strikes in which lorries were still running. If a mere reduction in the number of lorries running caused all this, then a complete immediate stop will be far worse.

As I said, we hold all the cards.

No, no this is not so. I am a car driver and I'm not stupid. Lorry drivers use their size to bully car drivers. They act in a most dangerous fashion on motorways, ie they drive too close and they often pull out without warning or they signal and then immediately pull out and this has the effect of slowing traffic and causing others to brake. The correct procedure is to signal and then wait for an opportunity, without causing traffic to have to brake sharply. No doubt that you will feel, for some odd reason, that this is not the case?

Obviously I'm not too bright at all; I inadvertently credited you with the ability to read and comprehend.

Of course we'd get by if there were no more lorries. We wouldn't have any choice. Allow me to assist you by explaining what "get by" means: "to manage to exist, survive, continue in business, etc., in spite of difficulties." [Dictionary.com]

I think it's quite clear that I knew that:
Before lorries, everything got moved about by horse & cart, barges, hand carts, or just by people carrying things unaided.

    I also added:
Sadly, this was slow and cràp, and you wouldn't like it very much if you had to do it now.

You've just jumped in and had a pop at someone who was agreeing with you, and you call me not too bright? :rotfl:Stick to driving, you're clearly a model example to us all. Reading and writing? If I were you I'd leave that to the grown-ups.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

TRY OPENING YOUR EYES, LOOKING FURTHER THAN THE EDGE OF YOUR BONNET AND ENGAGING YOUR BRAIN.

If they're closing on the vehicle in front, there's a possibility they might pull out so you drive accordingly.

Strange that when I'm in my car, I don't seem to have the problems you do when I'm on the motorway around lorries..

As for too close...30-40ft at 56MPH as opposed to <15ft at 70MPH in L3 that I see daily.....

Some do drive closer but that's to close up on the one they're going to overtake so they reduce the time they're in L2 to minimise the inconvenience to YOU.

And if car drivers are so good can you tell me why so many drive in L2 and L3 on the M6T where there's barely a car every 1/2 mile?

No, I just understand what the words mean. Bless.

    I don't think you do!

Look, let me try and explain in simple words so that even you can understand.
The Highway Code is not a legal document, I have never said it is, however it is full of rules and some of those rules are legally enforceable, highlighted by the words MUST and MUST NOT ,(as stated on the first page & which I have quoted in a couple of my posts), and also refer to the Road Traffic Regulations, break those rules and you commit a CRIMINAL offence.

I have only pointed these facts out when someone else has stated or implied that as they are in H C they are not relevant, well the said MUST/MUST NOT are relevant and as such it is those rules, and not the H C booklet that are the LEGAL requirements.

Does that now sink in to your small minded brain?

For you to keep stating “the H C is not a legal document” is meaningless because I have never said it is, just that a lot of the rules are legal requirements and are punishable re a criminal offence.

So stop being so damned pedantic.

I have seen lorries regularly traveling at 10 feet or less behind each other in convoy, 2,3, 4 at a time with no intention of overtaking.

It is bad driving and illegal to pull out on an overtaking vehicle, so what if you are closing the gap, you need to look in your mirror to make sure it is safe to make the manoeuvre before making it! Mirror Signal Manoeuvre, or weren't you taught that one?

Professional drivers! don't make me laugh.

Yes, this is exactly my point, ie they might pull out, and they often do, without signal or warning. This is a bullying tactic that they employ due to their size and I think it is dangerous.

Thank you for your input on the subject. I will not be responding to you further on this thread.

Are you paying £1.50 a litre? No

How was that down to you? the price of oil fell, that is why we are not paying £1.50 a litre, and oil is now over what it was then,( $80 a barrel yesterday ), and we are still not paying £1.50!
