  • I'd say they are easier. We've done a few of Easons booklets tests and the transfertest.com ones and the marks are lower with the Eason booklets.

My DS has started the fourth set of Easons book and finds comprehension harder than transfer.com.
If he can handle these I am hoping he'll be ok with the AQE papers. We aren't doing AQE papers as school uses these in P7. Finding hard to get motivation over holidays but so far have managed 2 tests per week. Also a little vocabulary /spelling revision. Scores are high 80s but sometimes a struggle to get completed in time and no time left for checking. Ideally aiming for 110 in AQE as Friends is first choice.
  • My son is struggling to complete his tests in the hour. I was thinking of telling him to do the maths first (he loves maths) and then the English. Just wondering if anyone else takes this approach or is it a silly idea?

Yes, in p6 my DD's teacher told them to do this to help with speed. They just need to double check nothing has been left out!!

  • I had such high hopes for doing one test per week in July and 2 per week in August. We've done 3 over the entire summer!

Did one this morning and she had a few daft mistakes, but appears to have remembered most stuff. From looking at the papers (windmill holiday pack) I have wondered if they are much easier than the real tests and whether they get hardier in the series or not? We got to 1:3, just wonder if we should jump to the end papers before she's back to school

Know that feeling. Much less work done than intended. The summer holidays have flown! Finally have got through a pack of 6 windmill papers. I didn't think they got harder. I wasn't that keen on them - preferred tests I bought in Easons.
I don't think the actual papers are harder than these. We aren't doing the actual past papers as the school are doing them when they go back. However I looked on the AQE web site and there is a free specimen paper and it looks easier than some of the practice tests.
They still have a full 2 months of term time before tests start and it will be busy, so the break was important too.
  • Thankfully we have managed to stick to our summer study plan and most scores in gl and aqe are generally in high 70's up to about 85% my d broke her right arm last week and god love her im doing the writing for her and shes still managing same scores we got confirmation this week also of exam centre all seems so real now

Well, done on sticking to the plan. Good scores esp with a broken arm.
School is back for us today. My DS was really excited about going back - up really early etc. They'll be doing 1 test in school, and 1 for homework each week in P7.
I'll try to squeeze another in at the weekend. That would be over 24 tests. That sounds like a lot as they will have normal school homework on top of this. He can do all the stuff but it is trying to eliminate the careless mistakes esp with the time pressure on too.
