18 papers sounds extreme to me. We got 6 from school - we did pay school for them as they didn't want to breech copyright etc on them. Those were windmill ones and looked hard. They do the real AQE ones in Sept of P7 so we were asked not to do them at home. In P6 they were doing 52 question only 11+ papers. My DS is also a June birthday and was getting 83-88%. I have decided to keep the Windmill ones for late Aug before they go back and do a couple of the Eason's papers after the July holidays. I think it just depends on what you think your child needs. I know I have to keep DS just 'ticking over' and building up speed and accuracy. He understands all the concepts but the lost marks are often failure to read the question carefully.

We are just back from two week holiday and total brain break - got my DD to do basic adding, subtraction etc to settle her brain back in. Trying to ease her in gently as she is resisting.... Panicking a bit when seeing about how many past papers others are doing...! Think she would be overwhelmed with three a week - are people doing three a week and going over mistakes or doing extra bits and pieces on days inbetween?? Do you find your child works better in the mornings? Thanks
  • We're doing one a week and going over the mistakes. They'll be working so hard from September to Christmas. I don't want my son to go off the whole idea over the summer as it's completely his decision to do this. If he's fit for it, he'll get it everyone keeps saying!

We do the paper on a Saturday morning, best time in our house with my husband home to entertain the younger children.

We did no work last week as we were on holidays. We haven't got a schedule and just playing by ear.I think how you approach it depends on what you think is best for your child. Only rule here in owur home, is not doing any work if child is tired or out of sorts. DS did one on Sunday morning and another on Tue morning. He scored well so probably that will do us for this week as DS is on a sporty summer scheme and coming home shattered. . So aiming for 1 during the week and 1 at the weekend. Using the Easons books and they seem to progress in difficulty as you work through the books. May do some vocabulary building / spelling tricky words as well - not transfer test just a sort of quiz or even something that I can find online. Trying to keep it low key by doing test marking and give some coaching on approach to questions and then packing them away and not mentioning the word 'transfer test' until next time we decide to do a test.
  • On a different note....Does anyone know the scores that Friends' and Wallace took down to this year for kids that don't go to the preps? It would be good to know what to aim for!

I have been giving my daughter tests throughout the summer we do 3 a week in the morning time then do our corrections thankfully she has come on brilliant from start of summer scoring well lowest so far has been 68% and highest 89% but most are around the 76% mark if i didnt do regular work with her she forgets how to do half the stuff in them she doesnt mind as we have been in spain all summer and once shes finished she knows she has the rest of the day to herself
  • What tests are you giving her to do? It's my first time through this and I'm feeling a bit green about it all!
