  • With the scores during class tests with us, I would say 75% is the minimum to get a place in one of the more popular grammars. There are kids in my sons class that continually are sitting on high 90's. unfortunately he isn't one of them!

Son burst into tears for no reason at all this morning, i dread to think what he will be like on Saturday, I think his nerves will be his undoing. We have told him in upbeat, calm ways that he knows his stuff, it's just rushing and not reading the questions etc.

Having a panic now, DD has been doing really well even though has been under the weather! Today dropped in score to 66% - wondering are nerves starting to creep in!! Although seems to be happy and in good form!! Nerves are wrecked but trying to hide it!!!

It was Friends School Lisburn. The lowest non prep entry was 110. The teacher had charted test practice results v final outcome and those that came out with 110 were kids who were averaging mid 80s.
Also if looked at raw scores v standardised scores see last years forum would indicate this as well. Some scoring low 80s came out with a score around 105 which wasn't enough. Her child was about average and not in with a real chance of 110.

Today out children did a 2015 paper and class average was 79%. Assuming that the class is average then that would be 100. Friends has been 110 (non prep) and Wallace 106 (non prep / sibling) then would have to get well above average or 100 to get in. Other schools like RBAI, Hunterhouse, Victoria take lower as they aren't so heavily oversubscribed.
Banbridge is our other option and their lowest grade in recent years has been about 102 - again in the 80s. If you are in Omagh/ Dungannon then a mark in the 60-70% would probably get you in.

    Hi Jab205
Maybe take out some of the papers child has done well in and remind them how well they can do and just encourage. I know it is so hard to conceal the nerves. My DS came home today and straight outside with the football. Rushed his homework in about 10 mins and never said transfer test! Either he is hiding it all or no longer gives a hoot!
  • My daughter doesn't seem nervous probably the opposite, she it totally sick of doing papers there fore making loads of mistakes, just simply not reading the questions and rushing, she had a paper done in 40 mins. 😯 I'm just hoping on Saturday reality will set in.
Dungannon would be our first choice and there lowest scores are still in the 90s. What % do you think we will need.

I am sure she will be more focused on the day. I would think that 70% she'd be ok. Also it is only 2 papers out of 3 so still ok so can afford one bad paper.
My DS did just 2 papers doing the holidays and rushed them in 40 mins and refused to spend the rest of the time checking. More mistakes than ever before! Then on Monday he did one in school and was back up again because it was exam conditions that can't manage to create at home.
