Bad guess pirate, the "iplayer app" on a foxsat is just an entry to check the BBC portal via the web, they then push out what they want displayed. the regular iplayer page(as we know it via windows and android etc) still has Three (or II!) as a "channel" it appears that they have forgotten about freesat...pure speculation of course:beer:
But as I said in post 11 you can still watch it if you know what to search for, i didn't know what to search for but I found cuckoo on the regular iplayer and then watched it on my Humax via channel 901 , start iplayer and then searched cuckoo. The BBC need to just re-insert II! (Three) into their xml or however they distribute it. The "app" on freesat never allowed you to watch "live" broadcasts why would they since they are already available on the satellite feed, the iplayer on freesat was only intended to allow catch-up, and it is probably the same on freeview boxes too.
Bad guess DCM.:D....You can watch live via the freeview iplayer I have (Humax FoxHD-T2) just as you can on any version. I've not tried it on the newer FVP-4000T yet.
If they are older boxes 'Foxsat HD and HDR, they shut down the old version of iPlayer on those in December and didn't replace it with the new version, according to the BBC.....

its an INTERNET channel NOT a TV station
It's really not a station at all
  • I am a little confused here!!

BBC I player portal (I assume there is only one) feeds out on the net. Looking on my PC the I player shows BBC3 (or 3) with all the other channels.

Looking at BBC I player via my Humax freesat box via the same net I get a different version of BBC I player with BBC3 (or 3) missing.

Two versions of BBC I player? Where is the problem - BBC, freesat box, freesat, or broadband provider (BT)

They replaced the iPlayer app with a new version in late December. They no longer support the old boxes so didn't update the app.....
What model boxes do you have?

  • On the assumption that the Iplayer section is operable on your box/tv or even your streamer device(i.e. you have an internet connection)-then BBC3 is easily accessible through the application.
  • FOXSAT-HD The box is a few years old.

That's your problem....It had the old version of iPlayer and the BBC are no longer supporting that particular box with the new version.

See here for a list (scroll down to closure of V2) of unsupported boxes..http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entries/b83f06a2-8552-47d3-b87a-2d883738d666?sortBy=Created&sortOrder=Ascending&filter=none

  • Thank you RumRat, I didn't know that. So the remainder of the I player service will go in September. So what do I do? buy another freesat box?

Its up to you, a new Freesat box would be easier.

Getting an Amazon Fire stick or a Google Chromecast would be a cheaper option.

I think that would be a good move if you want iPlayer etc. The box you have must be at least 8 years old, which is why the technology is not worth supporting for the BBC.
You could get a PVR while you are at it, if that floats your boat...;)
At least you know now......Good luck. :)
