Anyone not doing Valentines Day Cards & presents with partner?

Somewhere along the line Valentines Day stopped being for awkward teenagers to send their crushes a "secret" card (but you'd sort of hope they'd guess it was you) to compulsory purchases of fizz, chocolates and teddies. And gifts have to be red or pink because those colours are officially designated as more romantic than others.
Nothing romantic, special or magical as being bought the same gift as everyone else on the same day. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
I couldn't care less about Valentine's Day but I tell my partner that I do because it's the only chance I have of getting a bunch of flowers from him. He never buys them otherwise, and I love nice flowers in the house. I really should get over it and just buy them myself!0

I don't see why certain items are compulsory. My OH did buy me flowers but they were not roses as I don't like roses. He also bought me a bottle of Baileys. I bought him a dvd, no not a romantic one so our gifts were certainly not what everyone else was gettingThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
We don't do valentines day, birthdays or christmas mainly because a couple of years in to our relationship (age 18 and 19) we got a house. .And wracked up debt to fill it so we were always skint! Times have changed 15 years on but we just never rekindled it.
I guess we just aren't bothered. .If I want something I'll buy it myself and vice versa. I get excited over trips away and days out rather than gifts. It sounds a bit joyless writing it down ..It's nice to celebrate things in life!0 -
Me and my partner don't do anything special for valentines day but i did get her a card this year from snapfish because it was free! (I bet a lot of you also took advantage of this offer). We go out for meals and have takeaways a couple times a week, we go away for at least a night almost every month. We go somewhere nice for a walk or shopping every week when the weather is acceptable and often buy things for each other if we know its something the other wants and will use.
So really there is nothing extra that we would want to do just because its valentines day.0 -
Normally we do cards, a small gift (flowers/chocolate that kind of thing) and dinner. But we go out for dinner regularly anyway.
This year we bought cards and went pram shopping.0 -
We did the valentines meal out once, when we hadn't been going out that long. The restaurant had tried to shove in as many tables as possible, and was trying to get 3 sittings in, in a night, so you felt crammed in, rushed and on a conveyor belt. Felt sorry for those near the bar area, as they weren't getting customers through as quickly as they wanted, and so the bar was packed with the next sitting, and spilling out to next to the tables of diners.
We said after that we wouldn't bother with going out on valentines day again. Some years I do a special meal, 3 courses, candles, etc. Others I just do something I know he particularly likes.
This year we are going out next weekend for a meal as a family. It will be a lot less busy, and we will be able to enjoy a nice relaxed family meal out.Zebras rock0 -
Mrs G came from the village shop with a big smile on her face yesterday. All of Sunday's Valentines stuff had been reduced to silly money. A dozen red roses and big bunches of other flowers were 20p. A £6 box of Thorntons chocolates a £1.0
