OH is always at work for Valentine's, so we have never had chance to celebrate it together. Last year, instead of throw-away gifts, we just spent the money on a fruit tree for the garden. We both thought it was a better way to spend the money.

He will do a 15 hour day today- so I will run him a bath and pour him a whiskey ready for when he comes in. He will appreciate that a lot more that the 'tat' that shops sell.
  • I think that OH kind of panic brought me a card the first Feb 14th we were together. I was surprised as we'd never discussed it and I didn't expect anything. We chatted and agreed neither of us are fussed about it. Then we kind of fell into each getting a card for the other alternate years! I saw a card that made me think of him last month, so just saved it up for today, but would have given it to him some time anyway:

'love doesn't make the world go round but it makes the ride worthwhile'

We did go out for a bacon butty at lunchtime though!
  • I made my OH a wee card and bought him a packet of Rolos! That's as far as we got!

  • Been together 13 years and married for 10 and we've not bothered once.
Oh, I tell a lie - he did once send me an email pic of a Tesco value valentine's card!
    Who said romance is dead?!

My OH feels that it's all a commercial con and I'm not bothered either way. Actually, if OH DID get me something then I'd probably worry about what he was after :) Been together 28 years and in the early days his idea of a romantic gift was a packet of seeds (he said it was the gift of eternal flowers - fine until we moved house!)
  • No, no cards or presents here. We did have a bit of fun yesterday, though, sat in Tesco car park watching panicked men jump out of their cars only to return five minutes later with a straggly bunch of roses and some mediocre chocolates. Not exactly from the heart is it?

We are going to cook a meal tonight and eat together at the table rather than in front of the TV. I was half-tempted by one of the meal deals, but then figured I'm pretty damn hot at a triple-cooked chip for a fraction of the price.

We've never 'done' Valentine's day and don't buy cards or presents, but I do like the cards OH makes some years - usually too rude to show anyone else!
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

  • We buy or make eachother cards but I have told him I do not want flowers or chocolates as they are not very original. I have kept all the Valentine's, birthday, anniversary and thank you cards in a scrap book.

We hate the day, it is such a con and we laugh at all the suckers that bankrupt themselves and post pictures all over social media about his one day.

We had the markies dine in Valentine's Day dinner last night (so OH could have a drink). I got a felt flower, sweets and an old map framed (my safari map that I've had 11 years and never got round to framing it despite always wanting it done). OH got coffee, more coffee, a coffee tamper and a coffee scoop.

We would have bought the above for each other anyway but OH likes to celebrate today so we do, I'd happily give it a miss.
  • I've been with my OH for 6 years and we still do valentine's day. It's not really a lovey dovey thing, more that neither of us is ever going to turn down an excuse to eat chocolate.
