There are plenty of options. You have west London e.g. West Drayton and around Heathrow (e.g. Feltham NOT Hounslow!) which will be in budget, along with North West London e.g. Ruislip/nice parts of Harrow which is zone 4/5 therefore £50-55 pw on the tube and well under 1 hour commute. I currently live here and 550k easily buys you a 3 bed so 4 bed should be easy.
Alternatively South East London as mentioned, Orpington, Bromley, Purley all nice areas with quick commutes in a around 50-60pw travel costs. My friend recently bought a 5 bed house (needing just decorative work) for 550k near Bromley North station, 35 min train to Charing Cross.0 -
Anywhere north of the river should be better connected for getting into London. Your commuter costings sound frankly ridiculous if you're spanking £750k on a house though. Even on the tube you're looking at about £46 a week.
Echo the suggestion of West London. Isleworth/Osterley is my home town - good schools, leafy suburbs, mainline and tube connection. Houses near my parents are about £740k (ouch) for 4 beds with garage and parking.0 -
Your commute costs are not realistic. I commute from Luton and it costs me nearly £400 a month. You can easily get to Kings X in 40 mins - there are also fast trains that get there in 25 mins. I cannot recommend Luton as a place to live though. It doesn't have much to offer other than great link to London.Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade - budget is £750K. Both DH and I work in London. So we are looking at max 40min journey into London. We dont want to spend more than £50 each per week in travel costs. We have kids so being near outstanding state schools is a must.
We are looking for a house with 4 bedrooms (atleast 3 doubles), downstairs toilet, separate utility and a separate study.
Can we afford to get this all somewhere nice within our budget?
We live in beckenham at the moment. The kind of properties we like are out of budget here:(
Bedford is decent in terms of schools and you could get a pretty nice & big house at your budget e.g.

Trains to London are 40 mins. But, again, way more than £50 a week commute!!0 -

From a very brief look - and can't speak for schools or some fares!

North Chingford if you'd go north of the river? (can get Vic Line from Walthamstow a few stops down to Central Lon, or stay on overhead for Liv St - I live there and it's very nice, easy for London, and reasonable fares) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-39832248.html

(Some very good schools nearby, but fares will be more, and into Fenchurch St). I will hopefully be moving here next time! Lovely area.

Found a property in Chigwell IG7 for £749,995 (sorry, can't post a link).
Chigwell is 10 tubes stops on the Central Line from Liverpool Street, so easily less than 40 minutes away and £2.60 each way.
There are four bedrooms, three of them doubles, so use the fourth as a study. Downstairs toilet? Check. No utilities room, but the kitchen has a split layout, so you can use one part as your utilities room.
You are going to have to sort out the schools by yourself, but I think it ticks all your other boxes.0 -
This one? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-57873686.html
It's actually Grange Hill rather than Chigwell (although all under the umbrella of 'Chigwell'). The Limes Farm Estate is quite near, but not so near as to put me off. Been a bit of trouble there over the years. There are some very nice parts of Chigwell - this is an average one (I grew up in Chigwell. Mum still lives there).
This is the Epping search if worth considering. Epping is LOVELY: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION%5E487&minPrice=600000&maxPrice=800000&minBedrooms=3&displayPropertyType=houses&oldDisplayPropertyType=houses&googleAnalyticsChannel=buying
If you would consider Essex, I can probably help. Lived in a few places.
