What part of London do you both need to get to?0

            Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade - budget is £750K. Both DH and I work in London. So we are looking at max 40min journey into London. We dont want to spend more than £50 each per week in travel costs. We have kids so being near outstanding state schools is a must.
We are looking for a house with 4 bedrooms (atleast 3 doubles), downstairs toilet, separate utility and a separate study.
Can we afford to get this all somewhere nice within our budget?
We live in beckenham at the moment. The kind of properties we like are out of budget here:(
You said on another thread that you lived in Bromley?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

 This always makes me cringe!
 What's your job?
What experience of public sector target driven workplace culture do you have?
Do you have any idea of how these targets are met?
My advice is to "choose" the organisation that puts people before targets.
I always deliberately "choose" the organisation with the "worst" "performance".
 Because:
 1. The organisation may be applying common sense and decency to its priorities.
 2. The people who come up with these "targets" are slimy political types.
 3. It's a big F*** You to the whole damaging micromanagement culture.
Think you don't care? You will do one day!
 Rant over.
Good luck with your house hunting.0

Somewhere near Gatwick maybe.... Crawley perhaps? Roughly 40mins commute to Victoria. I'm sure you'd get within your budget. Just look up the 2nd runway plans first and make sure you're away from proposed flight paths - probably wont happen now, but just to be on the safe side.
Or maybe Guildford as already mentioned, though I suspect more expensive than Crawley. Otherwise, somewhere like Lingfield, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge - check commuter times for those places but I THINK they'll be within your budget.0

London 40mins, it can be longer than that to travel within london, you need to be more specific on where in London and if that is door to door or just part of the trip.
A 6 zone annual season ticket is over £50pw for the weeks you would commute0

            Move to sunny Cheshire.
Get a one bed flat close to city centre and work for £250K max
Spend £400K buying a stunning four/five bed detached home in the countryside.
Good schools and transport links, work on the train.
Spare £100K can pay for transport costs for a few years.
Kids can use flat to stay in when visiting/studying in London0

You'd get a lot for £750k in Woking or Guildford, and the commute to Waterloo would be within your time limit, but I think you'd struggle to find anywhere with such a cheap commute unless you went by bicycle...0
