Did an inventory of my freezer this morning (not very romantic!), I always cook for 4 (DD1 is at Uni and I haven't adapted yet) so now have one portion of lots of things frozen. Devised a meal plan for the next 2 weeks to use it all up.
Looked at my budget yesterday and have noticed how things have crept up in price, broadband/phone, wood, mobile contract etc. Unfortunately, working the public sector, my wages haven't increased at all. Need to keep things in check so will look around for better deals when contracted times finish.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone:)Just when I'm about to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends0 -
Morning all :hello:
Hoping for less of the freezing windy conditions here but no snow, so we can't complain. Stay safe where it's bad folks.
Today will mainly consist of doing things round the house I think whilst I have the chance:
Liberate some unwanted clutter - already recycled 4 old 'catalogues/directories'
Meals from stores, Christmas Day roast pork for tea
Make crumble, will freeze remaining stewed apple, some gifted blackberries out of freezer to go with
Check banking, surveys and FPL
Check e mails, see if I can purge any
Look a Feb list, see what I can do next, some may need a bit of planning
Strip some more wall paper
Quick fly lady in lounge
Dry small load of washing
Lego mum love the idea of a use up box, however, when I investigated yesterday I seemed to have more than a few things (although a cupboards are fairly bare, there are just some random things in there. Do you have a 'criteria' of what makes it in the box rather than just be in the cupboard IYSWIM?
Have a great day everyone - happy valentines :happyhear:happylove:smileyhea

Good morning on this lurvely day.:happylove:kisses3::kisses2:
I got a bit of a lie in this morning. I was ready to get up at 7 but found ds asleep on the sofa in the living room, so I left him to it. Got up at half 8. Think that dh is pleased with his £land gifts and they are all practical - like his favourite snacks, smellies etc plus a couple of dvds
I have to go out and get milk today, but I don't have any romantic gesture of a meal planned... Can't bank on a takeaway either as we're skint.
So here's my list for today
:heartpuls 2 hours of tutoring
:heartpuls finish crochet unicorn
:heartpuls knit up the knitting kit that ds got me as a Valentine's gift
:heartpuls do a bit of shopping but no going wild with the spends
:heartpuls try and think of something nice to make for dinner
:heartpuls relax
:heartpuls make time for exercise
:heartpuls stay up late if I can to celebrate not having to get up for work tomorrow!
:heartpuls get the kids to do something around the house to help
That will do for the moment. Have a good day everyone :happyloveNot giving up

Morning Jonno,
My criteria really is either - something that I'm given to use up because its OOD or something I've bought to go in a recipe and have some of it left.
When I first started the box it was very different to whats in there now as I used up the majority of randoms - Kids regularly ask for "concoction" meals since I started this!
My use up box contains the following at the minute
2 sachets of old el paso salsa which my sister doesn't like so she sent them over - see below
1 pack of fajieta spices (a plain pack so its been part of a kit at some point need to buy a pack of wraps and will do this with the salsa one day in the week
1 pack of quiona that I bought when on a silly diet & never knew what to do with them so they'd been at the back of the cupboard for a long time They've been in this use up box since I started it last summer so I MUST use these soon!
5 cans of OOD Tetleys that my MIL was going to bin I stick one in the slow cooker when I cook beef
1/2 pack of freebie milkshake powder that came through the post
a few jars/packets of things that I've got either v.cheap or free via cos/shopit
Cranberry tea - that my mum wasn't using so I said send it over!
green tea that dh had bought then not drunk
I find that if I put these things in a box at the front of the cupboard, I see them every day and I am more likely to actually do something with them. HTH
Thanks Lego mum **wonders off to sort out cupboards and meal plan for the week based on cupboard stuff **0 -
I think that use up box is a brilliant idea as well. Thank you legomum - I may just steal this. Not giving up

Happy Valentine's Day :heartpuls
Today we are going to walk to the showroom for our new house and get some decorating ideas, think about space and colours etc so we can plan for savings and shop around (we have until sept/Oct lol!)
So whilst not hugely romantic, it's very exciting planning our home together!
Checked free postcode lottery, item on eBay; dress has met minimum reserve so will sell!
Then onto lots of ironing of lots of clothes then photo'g and listing to also go on eBay as part of the declutter/cash saving!
Food will all be from stores- tattle scones from the freezer with some fried eggs for brekkie :heart
Will check the boards later tonight whilst I am sorting all the paperwork and statements for the mortgage application- everything crossed!
Enjoy your Sunday's everyone :-)First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
Morning all
Up early after not much sleep
So far I have:
Fed dogs and hens
Walked dog
Made a cooked breakfast for a treat for DH when he got up (I had some too, but really prefer my porridge)
Must get motivated:
List for today:
Use hot water from kettle stored overnight in thermos to wash up the bits that can't go in the dishwasher
Make the cake I didn't do yesterday
Strain my sloe gin
Cook a curry for supper (from a WW cook book I found in the CS, looks yummy though)
Housework / decluttering - not sure what / where yet
Get the week's postal survey stuff ready
Any online surveys and check FPL (don't know why I bother with this)
If it warms up a bit, get out in the garden for an hour
Wash out and make holes in the tub the mushrooms were in, to sow my tomato seeds - it is a nice deep one)
Another dog walk
Determined not to sit around as much today as I did yesterday, as the sun is shining and it actually isn't raining :T
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Hi February Folk,
We have sunshine! It's a miracle. This is the first time since last year!
Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Month Nine:
* Bed-linen is out on the line. It's been so long since a dry day that I had to get the instruction booklet out to remember how to use a peg.
* Going for a walk while the Big Yellow Thing is out. Will take a flask of coffee and a flask of soup and some bread and butter with us. OH will, no doubt, do some Photogra-faffing. (If anyone wants to be endlessly bombarded by my posting of her landscape and wildlife photos look me up on Facebook. I'm not hard to find.)
* As far as Valentine's Day goes we bought some £2 tulips in Aldi during the week. Our Sainsbury's Local wanted £21 for roses and we're not paying that. Would usually just bring in some daffodils from the front garden but they're not out yet. Added a teaspoon of sugar to the vase water to perk up the stems. Dinner will be a roast made with meat bought from M&S with loyalty vouchers.
That's about it. What about you peoples?

Thanks Candy and to you
Interesting to read about everyone's days as usual. We haven't done much. Ran out of butter and crackers so went to get them. For lunch I used up 2 wraps one for me and DH each. I fancied eggs which he doesn't eat so I fried 2 eggs with a big handful of chorizo and some tomatoes then topped my wrap with that and some cheese. It was delicious. Still enjoying getting back to eating so much.
Put the veg scraps box into the compost as that hadn't been done for ages. For some reason our council didn't take our bins last week so I've had to call up about that. It's annoying as the wheelie bin is now totally full. If the lid is unable to close they may use that as a reason not to collect! Which is a joke. So can't put the bin out or it will overflow the container.
The fridge has hardly anything left to use up now which is good. A box of chilli from last night's tea but I think that may be used tonight anyway.
OH has gone for a nap as our night was not good with DD. Just watching DS playing spiderman on the xbox.
Have a good day all.
