Given your income. £30 should never be viewed as a small sum.0 -

It's more than a £30 saving as the 1TB consoles seem to have been creeping up in price recently to around the £300 mark while it's possible to get 500GB consoles for under £250, just picked up the Destiny special edition console for £240 brand new. That means I can fit a 2TB drive to it and still save money over a 1TB console which is handy given the huge, mandatory install sizes and often huge patches.
There isn't plenty of chance to mess it up, all you do is slide out the old drive, take the four screws out, screw them into the new drive and slide the drive back in. Well aside from excessive clumsiness but then if that's the case, the whole console is likely doomed and such a person should stay away from expensive electronics.
The Xbox is clever in the way it combines the internal and external storage though to one large storage pool.
With regards to the Xbox One vs PS4, I'd agree with the recommendation to go with whatever friends have and what exclusives you prefer. Those were the reasons I bought an Xbox One first, I don't really agree with the option of a PS4 for better graphics - the difference tends to be small in reality and if graphics is a priority then a decent gaming PC even with a midrange graphics card can significantly outperform the PS4.

Relative to what? I would view £30 as a worthwhile saving.
circa 10% of the purchase price.
HDs drop in price all the time with deals coming up.
Plus on replacement you have a 500GB drive spare.
You evidently see it as a trivial sum.0 -

From the Xbox website:
For an external storage drive to save games and apps from Xbox One, it must meet the following requirements:
It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.
It has 256 GB or larger storage capacity.
It has a partition. Typically, drives come with a preformatted partition. For more information about partitioning an external hard drive, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Devices that don’t meet these requirements will be treated as media storage, such as for music or video. For more information, see How to manage storage on Xbox One.
Additionally, no more than three external drives can be connected to the console at the same time.
Yes you just plug in a USB hard drive in to any of the 3 usb slots on the console and thats it. They even sell an official external harddrive but as normal that isn't the cheapest one.
Even the 360 can accept external usb harddrives up to 2tb since the November(around then) software update.
I belive that on the PS4 its still a case of opening in up and replacing the drive rather than adding another. It was easy enough on a PS3 but on a 4 I'm not sure as don't own one.0 -
Can you work (no pun intended) Google?
I can....

Which is circa a 10% saving.
Consider the price of the console the fairly small amount you would save from installing a hd yourself and the chance that despite it being fairly simple you could still screw up your console.
Personally I wouldn't. I would just go with the console with the biggest hd if I were to get one.0
