Ooh, did I mention I have a phone bird again?

Until they chopped the trees down in my neighbours garden, there was a bird (which I suspected but didn't know was a blackbird) that would wake me up in the morning with its fine telephone impersonations. Then it disappeared and this made me sad as I wanted to know it was ok following its habitat loss.

So now I have a new phonebird, which is wonderful. All the old tunes plus a new repertoire of ring tones. Lovely.

When I was a kid, the neighbours had to get rid of their Trimfone (the trendy in-thing back then) - because a starling had got it off to a T and they were forever running into the house or down the stairs to grab the phone, and find nobody there.

Ooh! Any chance you could record it?

It is tricky recording birds unless they are very close. I tried last year, but it was hopeless.

Mind you, I don't know how you'd post sounds on here. Perhaps a picture-less YouTube post?

There's a clip on here somewhere of a cockatoo barking like a dog.

There's also a fantastic one of a cockatoo laughing its head off. It's so infectious, it's guaranteed to cheer you up.
I can go and get it if you like?

    Who needs cheering up?

Edit. Just realised that the censor has allowed cockatoo! Good. Showing some sense!

Edit...... there you go.....Dr. Pyxis' s prescription for the NP people....... laughter is the best medicine!

A poem doesn't have to rhyme,
At least, not every single time.
It can be rhymeless, but it's still
A poem, be it good or ill.

And with these lines I demonstrate
    That blank verse too, a poem be;
That with these lines no rhyme is needed
    To convey the sentiment.

    Nice one Pyxis :D

I like this one by Wendy Cope:

"People tell you all the time
Poems do not have to rhyme.
    It's often better if they don't -
So I'm determined this one won't.

    Oh dear.
    " :D

ETA and thanks for the cockatoo :D

bugslet thank you for that poem. It is beautiful :)

viva How lovely that you have a phonebird again :T
I remember my brother's budgie copying the Trimphone noise.

I just got a bill from them this week for an account I closed nearly five years ago. Go figure.

Urgh. Yes, I mad the misfortune to deal with npower, not out of choice, but because I had a deemed contact with them when I moved in here (well, I guess I could have decided not to buy the house - and the threat of having to try to deal with npower would probably be enough to put me off just about anywhere!).

Unless you're after a new, time consuming hobby where the only output is raised blood pressure... don't do it!

I'm with Npower, not had any problems at all....yet!

Mind you, I stick to paying via standing order, I may not get the direct debit reduction but it's worth it for not having the stress when they decide they want to just double your monthly payment despite being in credit. I'm in control, not them.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Amazing how well known ferals are to the local police.

I was looking at some cctv with local bobby, from some quite blurred footage they were naming the brats.

They should name/shame online.... parents are either the feral type themselves, or the clueless/blinkered sort. Their cherub's not up to trouble... oh no... such an angel.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Remember me?

Was a regular poster and then my Son was born and I just got swept into being a father and pretty much disapeared. As it is there is so problem, I am a happy dad with a great son (currently teething hence my time of posting).

In other news I have quit the day job and am now self employed, got a bit less money but so much more time with my son which is worth so much more.

Hope everybody here is happy and healthy.

I will be checking back with on a more frequent basis again.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Interesting that she was shocked, given that she was only two years older than her daughter when she gave birth herself.

Good news in the J household.

As some of you may know, DS's school couldn't fit his preferred GCSE options into their blocking system, so he has been doing one subject through a combination of home schooling and self study, with all his other subjects at school in the usual way (and one extra self-studied maths qualification - the FSMQ - just because he wanted to do it on top of everything else). Today, he has just shown me a grid of the timetable blocks for A level subjects for his school from September, and the subjects he wants to do fit nicely. I knew they would, really, because he's chosen an entirely reasonable selection of compatible subjects that you would expect any sane timetable blocking system to be able to accommodate, but all the same, it's nice to know. Particularly nice to know ahead of his "interview" on Tuesday, when he'll be asked questions about why he's picked the subjects he's picked, and told officially whether he can go ahead with them.
