I don't drink fizzy, nor do I drink those posh drinks from the coffee shops (I don't drink coffee, cannot stand the smell, so don't go in those places)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't buy any drinks with sugar in. However I occasionally have a diet coke or pepsi, or the max equivalent.

In all the time I've been buying cola, I've never seen a difference in price between the version with sugar and the version without; except when there has been a very specific promotion, eg the green one, when that was launched had an introductory price.

Just looked it up, the green one is Coke Life, which is sweetened with a mix of sugar and stevia sweetener. That has been launched in the UK (it is a new product and isn't in all markets yet aiui) so will be interesting to see what happens to that or whether it falls under the line.

The last time I bought a diet coke was earlier this week. It was part of a meal deal, so included in price. Would have been £1.20 otherwise for one of the plastic bottles.

I never buy meal deals .... I'm there because I want something to eat and that'd be a sandwich; I then check for the cheapest sandwiches, there's often a choice of two at £1 or so. So I choose one.
Then I go round to the fizzy pop aisle and find a pack of 8 cans for £2 or less. I'll make my choice, PM's best, diet coke or pepsi with lime is next.... there's a pecking order. I know I'll find one 8-pack of something at that price.

So I'm out of the store and I've spent £1 on a sandwich, £2 on 8 drinks (so 7 spare for home) and I've avoided the crisps in the meal deal, so saved 160 calories :)

I just thought this meal deal through. If I were richer, say earning £20-25k/year, I'd be picking up a nice fat coronation chicken baguette, gleefully grabbing the Walkers cheese/onion crisps and getting the bottle of PM.

I'd be out of that shop to scoff that lot down ..... and I'd be a lot fatter if I had more money.

That meal deal will cost about 1000 calories.
My cheap £1 sandwich (egg/mayo or cheese/onion) is probably closer to 350-400.

If you want to avoid sugar you're better off with Lilt than Coke Life. A 650ml bottle of Coke Life has 10 tsps of sugar vs 15 tsps in a bottle of regular Coke. Lilt is low enough in sugar that it doesn't fall into the sugar tax regime. Coke Life will be in the mid-range for sugar.

Do diet drinks fall into it?

I've no idea, it's all confusing - "they" bandy about these phrases "sugar tax" without actually saying what they mean, or how it'd change anything.

Diet drinks don't have sugar in. I always choose "sugar free" drinks.

I worked out a long time ago that if I have a sugar free drink with my chips, then I can have a pie/chips every third purchase, using the calories saved by not having Coke.

I'm keeping an eye to what is going on in Brussels. It looks like another coordinated series, like in Paris:(. I hope no more happen.

The world's a less pleasant place nowadays, that's for sure .... all we had to put up with was the odd IRA bomber and the threat that Russia was about to nuke the world to hell in the next 10 minutes. One you could pretty much avoid; the other it was Game Over anyway.

Now there are more random nutters wandering around doing mad stuff.

That's my view too. There are too many nice things to eat without wasting calories on drinks.

The odd IRA bomber was a right pain in the 80s, tube stations being shut and evacuated etc.

Brussels has had high level risk for a few months.

We are flying this afternoon (not near Brussels), feeling anxious already.

I'm sure michaels can produce some statistic that airports are the safest place to be for the rest of the day!
