Thanks for all the concern. I ended up spending an hour on a windswept platform at finsbury park which was the recommended route before giving up as no trains were moving, tube to high barnett but dw was very nervous about driving somewhere unknown in the dark so she went to st albans to see if the trains the website claimed were running actually were and they were so back to kentish town and finally home at 8.45.
Not sure what was the main problem, lack of trains or wrong and misleading info (when the websites weren't down from too much traffic).
I fear both our trampolines are write-offs, I will try and post a photo later.
For future reference, you can take the 107 bus from High Barnet tube to Elstree & Borehamwood station and pick up Thameslink from there.
That may sound just as long, particularly if the roads are congested, but at least it means you are always within a vaguely rescueable distance if the trains stop running.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Sounds tortuous michaels.
The other route that I've used before now was the Met Line to Watford. I then walked into town and got a bus home from there. There's also an Arriva Bus app you can download (if you haven't already) that gives the buses and times which is pretty useful. I used that for a bit while waiting for my new car to arrive.
It's pretty rubbish though. Hopefully we won't have another storm like that for a while. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Just been told that 10 minutes after I gave up at Finsbury Park having been told there were definitely no Hatfield trains coming one came :mad:I think....0

"a bit" was definitely an understatement up here yesterday afternoon
I'm amazed that over half the Copeland voters went out and cast their votes, bad weather usually leads to a much poorer turnout.
Interesting.
Michaels.....
Luckily, standing shivering on station platforms is just an old memory for me. A very strong and horrible memory, though, so I really do sympathise. :A
Have you had to struggle in again today, or were things back to normal?(I just lurve spiders!)

Apparently although I missed out on getting home 90 minutes earlier because I gave up at Finsbury Park I also got lucky in getting a train N on Thameslink as very shortly after the one I got they stopped running altogether because they were only able to run trains North and ran out of trains - a colleague 30 minutes behind me at St Pancras ended up sharing an Uber home to Luton getting home at 10:30....I think....0

Glad you did get home ok in the end. I've been there
It's confirmed what I was thinking that if I do get this job in Inner Herts I'll move up there. The commute from NW London would be fine, but the cost aside I don't really want to be reliant on the trains if I can help it.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. One thing to bear in mind though Mas, is that if you work in Herts, your co-workers probably won't live in London. I know that if I get stuck at work, I can stay on a colleague's sofa. That isn't a real option for many in London, as in London, so many commute in, so the number in the same boat is much higher. Whereas once you get out here, more people live locally, or drive to work. So staying in London (at least initially) may not be as big an issue as you think.
All of that is probably different for michaels, as he also has a young family to get back to.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I guess so - especially when you compare with the poor showing in Stoke.
I thought the turnout in Stoke was around 50%?(I just lurve spiders!)
