We live in a bizarre world of overly-good, better than necessary customer service!
This morning, I ordered a new kettle from Amazon at 7AM, as the old one had a small leak. It arrived at 9.30AM. Of course, I could have waited a day or two and put a saucepan on the stove to boil water.
This evening, I was having trouble with an online transaction on my bank account. So, I rang them at 11PM, and they courteously dealt with my enquiry. This was something that could easily have waited until the morning.
I remember back in the 80s when I had reason to visit the USA a lot, I had to phone a British Airways desk at night-time and was dealt with (very cordially and efficiently) by their New York staff. It felt very weird, as overseas call centres didn't really exist yet. I didn't realise that that would be such a big part of future industry/business.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Can't sleep tonight. Watching the extended Tennis highlights, really excellent stuff! And if anyone is wondering why I have Federer as my avatar, apart from respecting him hugely as a player, I get told I look like him a lot. I think I do, too. From some angles watching him is like looking at a pic of myself.
I've been feeling very down the past week or so. It's all starting to take its toll. Been trying to find temp work for a bit of money and something to occupy me apart from endless applications, but even that is proving difficult without getting my foot in the door somewhere. I really don't know what to do“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Talking of good service, I once recently ordered some pens from an office supplies firm. When they arrived, I realised I had ordered the wrong sort, ones with caps, not retractable ones.
It was entirely my mistake. They were part of an order that had free delivery if the order was over £30.
I rang them, explained that it was my mistake, and could I exchange them. The most I hoped for was that they would waive the delivery charge, as adding that to the price of the pens would have made them very expensive.
Well, they very kindly said that they would send the pens, no delivery charge, and that I could keep the other pens and give them away! (I really wouldn't have used them, as I only use retractable pens, especially for crosswords!)
I must admit, I was gobsmacked, as it was entirely my mistake.
Anyway, I gave the wrong pens to a charity shop and was very happy!
Then even more recently, I sent an email to my accountant. I sent it on a Sunday afternoon, while I remembered, as the next day was going to be busy. It wasn't at all urgent, just explaining something, and it didn't need a reply, certainly not straight away!
I was a bit embarrassed when he replied within an hour, on a Sunday afternoon! I didn't think he'd pick up a work email on a Sunday, let alone reply. Can't sleep tonight. And there was me thinking you were quite good looking!
But then I read that you look like him, so you probably are!
But how's your tennis?

Sorry to hear you've been so down.
I guess that the £30 each way interview didn't produce results, then?
I can appreciate how soul-destroying it must be.
I don't know your situation, but are there things you could get stuck into like home improvements, or study, (even local authority courses) or even try out something completely different, like dance classes (guys are always in short supply, across all genres), or some sort of craft?
Do you like dogs? Could you offer dog-walking services?
If you are any good at DIY, you could offer handyman services.
Gardening? Jobbing gardening services, especially to the elderly. Even if it's just lawn-mowing....... won't be long until the grass starts growing again.
I know these are all small things, but there is a huge demand for someone to do small jobs, and it might help a bit in the very short term.
I don't know what line you're in, though.
Anyway, you can always come on here and unburden. :A(I just lurve spiders!)

The first thing I found on Facebook today was some totally fake news that Mick Jagger had died. Then, I found this, which doesn't look all that fake:-No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I have a story of good service too. We bought DS a g@meboy many years ago now and after a few months it went wrong. I phoned the manufacturers helpline and the very next day a replacement was delivered and swapped over.
Quite a shame that DS later swapped it for some p0kemon cards not realising the difference in value.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Always difficult to know if looking for temp work is a distraction from the main focus.
Could you widen the scope of jobs you are looking for?
DS2's job found him. He put his profile on one of these websites that hold candidate profiles and a recruiter found him. Sounded a bit backwards to me, but it clearly works.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
