Edit ...it might just be that the Dropbox account recognises I'm logged in and so gives me access, even when linking from another email address. I hope so, anyway!

    I'll have to risk it!

    That makes sense to me.

Like I can't see what a non-friend would see on facebook because I'm already logged in as me, or not logged in at all.

I did open a Google drive thing.
Haven't really used it yet, but there does seem to be a bit of a conflict with the app for iOS and the main website.

It was only a few months ago that I realised that you can access Facebook via the App, which is what I've been doing, or the main website, which is quite a bit different!
I hardly use it though. I only opened an account so that I could access
notifications from an exercise class. It's like Fort Knox......no one can view anything! Not that there's much, anyway!

    I've got a headache now. :(

Pyxis, why not open a new free dropbox account and put into that just what you want to share?

Yes, purports being the operative word! Icons on that screen are different from mine.
I've been doing what it says, using my initiative, but......
It just seems that whoever I email it to could get access to my whole Dropbox account, instead of just that file, unless I am logged out of Dropbox, but what happens if I log back in?

    Aaaasrgh!

There are other things about Dropbox that are irritating too. Like trying to copy or move a file into another folder....it's dire!
    I don't like it at all. :(

How big are these files? Can you email them as attachments?

Well, I decided to go for it and share the files! The recipient has said that they can't see the rest of my Dropbox, and I've no reason to doubt them!

    What a palaver, though!

Yes, normally I email individual music files, but this was a folder containing a lot, and it would have been a right pain to do that, as it would have been too big to send in one go. I'd have had to send each track separately.

However, the time I did spend on it all, I might just as well have emailed them all individually!

Another thing that's a pain is that a while ago, I wanted to upload my photos, as a backup, but uploading even just a third of them took hours and hours and hours and tied up my iPad for days.

Never understood why it takes so long or why it can't do it in the background.

I don't understand that Pyxis. My ipad backs up all my photos to iCloud in the background without me doing anything. I don't use Dropbox as it was too clunky. Or I don't know how to use it. One or the other.

Uploading takes much longer than downloading because that's how ADSL works. The A stands for asymmetric.

When I first backed up my photos to one drive it took ages - but then I was on ordinary adsl with upload of about 0.8mb and had 125gb of stuff to upload. Luckily it did happen in the background.
    I think....

It's a very long story, but I can't back up to iCloud. It just won't do it. (Apple are aware and can't sort the problem).

    Hence why I tried Dropbox.

And yes, clunky is a good way to describe Dropbox. :D

Am not sure what adsl I'm on. It's not fibre anyway!

There's a stack of other onlne cloud storage services you can use for free. Adrive and MEGA give you 50Gb free and pcloud and box about 10-20Gb each IIRC. Maybe ask over on the Techie forum. Although I use a mac, I've never used icloud I'm afraid, as I was already used to dropbox by then.

We live in a bizarre world of overly-good, better than necessary customer service!

This morning, I ordered a new kettle from Amazon at 7AM, as the old one had a small leak. It arrived at 9.30AM. Of course, I could have waited a day or two and put a saucepan on the stove to boil water.

This evening, I was having trouble with an online transaction on my bank account. So, I rang them at 11PM, and they courteously dealt with my enquiry. This was something that could easily have waited until the morning.
