I have been watching the new series of "An Island Parish" which this time is in Anguilla, in the Caribbean.

Has anyone ever been there? It's still a British Overseas Territory, like the Falklands, but I've scarcely heard of it.

I haven't been there, but I've seen it from a boat and neighbouring islands. It isn't remote in the sense of the Falklands, or Pitcarn Is... in fact it isn't really remote at all. I've been to neighbouring St Kitts and St Marten/Martin and it can be seen from both. Iirc you can see it from The British Virgin Islands too.

I remember as a kid, Anguilla was part of St Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla. Apparently the Anguillans didn't like this, which is why they aren't a part any more.

You can get a ferry over to Anguilla from the French side of St Martin, I stood at the dock and tried to do it, but I couldn't get over, get back, then get back to the Dutch side in order to leave, which was a shame.

If anyone follows athletics, both Shara Proctor, our best long jumper, and talented sprinter Zharnel Hughes are both from there but compete for GB. Proctor came second in the Beijing World Champs in 2015, and Zharnel Hughes was compared to Bolt and Blake as a teenager, he has prodigious talent but hasn't yet run sub 10s, but that could well come, he's a lovely, natural runner. He's only 21 so.plenty of time. Two athletes in the GB squad from a place with a population of less than 14000 shows that Anguillans punch above their weight in sporting terms.

So, you remember the Anguilla revolution, and how the UK sent an invasion force to put it down? The force mostly consisted of London policemen, plus a few soldiers just in case there really was trouble, which there wasn't. So, Anguilla is one of our few remaining colonies - oops, not a colony, an overseas territory.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The Radio Times often confuses me, because it makes references to very early a.m. programmes as belonging to the previous day.

The worst TV confusion I had was when they rebranded UKTV History as Yesterday.

I spent some time checking the EPG and thinking "That looks interesting, damn, it was yesterday. I've missed it. " :embarasse:embarasse:embarasse

What is the opposite of a posh alert?
It's knowing what having a monk on means without resorting to google.
I knew what it meant immediately I saw hjd's post. Is it perhaps a West Midland expression?

    Farage alert.

Nothing to do with party politics (lets not get into that here), but just an average bloke that's probably in a pub debating politics with his mates and having a pint :)

Farage went to Dulwich College. If a certain number of chairs in your house warrants a posh alert, then going to a top London school and becoming a stockbroker and leader of a political party is probably not the opposite. :o

Well if POSH did originate from Port Out Starboard Home, (and I know that's been debated), I suppose the opposite should be SOPH!

(Failing that, it could be a Chav alert?
Soph might be less contentious!) :D

    Thanks for that! Interesting!

    Don't remember that! :D
Perhaps they all just sat down with a cup of tea and had a chat about it. :D

Yes. I was once telling someone about a series, and I said "It's on Yesterday" a few times, and then realised she was looking very confused, especially when I said things like, "It's on every Tuesday on Yesterday".
I had to explain that Yesterday was one of those new-fangled digital channels!

I meant how he tries to portray himself rather than that.

I do take your point though.

IIRC, Nigel Kennedy was one of the first people to go a bit 'Estuary'!

Pyxis I loved your "abbreviated simian" :D but i don't think I've heard "monk" used to describe a style of shoe.

I know "Got a monk on", and my BIL who lives in just south of the Humber says "having a cob on".

Pastures New is it possible that the woman who had a monk on was actually like me and looks fed up unless actually smiling? :D

I have a mouth that turns down at the corners, and our DGD has inherited it, poor little soul.
