I don't think so, she was saying things that indicated she wasn't really interested, but was just going "to see" as it was her fella's dream.

I've got one of those faces.... I HATE the way strangers remark in the street "Cheer up, it may never happen!" - I think ... "it just DID ... you made assumptions about me that aren't true and think it's your God given right to speak out. Kn0b. I was 100% deliriously happy until YOU spoke"

Well if POSH did originate from Port Out Starboard Home, (and I know that's been debated), I suppose the opposite should be SOPH!

    I believe that it's a backronym.

Pyxis I loved your "abbreviated simian" :D but i don't think I've heard "monk" used to describe a style of shoe.

    (snip)

I have a mouth that turns down at the corners, and our DGD has inherited it, poor little soul.

I've got a pair of monk shoes. Got them half price in the sales last Jan (had been hoping they would go on sale!). Other than try them on to make sure they fitted I haven't worn them yet! :o

You have my sympathy ivyleaf and Pastures, I have the downturned mouth too. And get the "cheer up it might never happen", though less so now as hardly ever go out! :rotfl: Mostly it did happen last year, so that would be my retaliation - "it already did!"

Mostly for Pastures who I know collects recipes... came across a nice little collection on the Food Network website for microwave recipes. You will know a lot of them, but I fancied the one for thai curry.. all I need in addition to some veggies are coconut milk and thai curry paste, which I will definitely try. I'll probably try tip 20, on how to un-stale your bread, too.

    Here's a link:
    http://www.foodnetwork.co.uk/article/20-microwave-cheats-make-your-life-easier.html

Here's the recipe for the microwave Thai curry if anyone wants to take a look:

    15. Quick Steam Bag Curry

Fill a zip lock steam bag with a handful of frozen mixed vegetables (such as peas, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), add two teaspoons of curry paste (we use Thai green or red but you can use Indian pastes too), 140ml coconut milk and fully seal the bag. Shake for a minute until all the ingredients are fully combined, lay flat on a microwavable plate and cook on high power for five minutes for a fresh, creamy curry. Serve with rice or noodles.

I really like curry, but it's always seemed a bit hard to make, whereas this would be simple.

I already do that..... but not using bags. The bags are just a "marketing technique" to try to stand out. I use a regular microwavable bowl with a lid. Using bags is "bit of a waste" and you can get microwave bowls with clip lids for £1 at any Poundland/similar these days (I've got six of those now)

The trouble you get is using/sourcing coconut milk, in the main.
Opening a tin is a no-no as you've then got too much food, which you can't freeze because your freezer's already full of other things you froze.

BUT - there are some sachets of coconut cream, which are perfect for "serves one", except you can't find/buy them. Asda lists them on their website, but when I specifically looked in there for them about 4 years ago, they didn't even have them on their shelves.

I am not often in Asda (once a year or so) ... and haven't remembered to "see again if they stock them or not" though. But, when I happen to be in relevant aisles in any shop I'll always take a quick look, but have never found them for sale anywhere yet.

There are also blocks of coconut cream available, which you can just use 1/4 of one... but there's still then a sense of having to use up the remaining 3/4s before it goes off.

Then there's the Maggi Coconut Milk Powder - perfect ... except you can't find/buy that either. Allegedly at Sains & Tesc0 now ... used to be Asda.
    http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/sainsburys-price-comparison/Marinades_And_Sauces/Maggi_Coconut_Milk_Powder_Mix_300g.html

And that is why I don't make it as often as I'd like :)

EDIT: Can't see the sachets listed at all on mysupermarket now... ah, here they are, Pataks. https://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Marinades_And_Sauces/Pataks_Creamed_Coconut_4x50g.html

Lots of shops do them allegedly. The trouble is, actually finding a shop that actually stocks them.

If you look at the recipe you linked to, it uses 140ml of the milk. That doesn't match a tin, at all... so you start off by opening a tin and using "some of it", standing there like a lemon thinking "so now I'm left with a bit of this that's not enough to do it again and is way too much to use in this". Cooking for one isn't just about coming up with a recipe, it's thinking through the whole process so you emerge without leftovers :)

In fact, with a tin of coconut milk often costing £1, add in the other stuff and you might as well just pick up a cheap microwave ready meal for one for £1 and be done with it.

I've always got a tin in the cupboard .... it's usually the same tin. Although, taking a fresh look at what's allegedly available today ... Sainsbobs do a 165ml tin for 50p. So that could be used, adding in more food .... so then you've got a big dinner and eat it all and put weight on :)

    You can't win really.

That's beautiful, thanks CK. I bet Pyxis would love that.

I did something really stupid yesterday. I can highly recommend that if you knock a cheese grater off the side and have zero catching skills (like me) that you don't try to catch it. I ended up grating the side of my index finger.. silly me. Not bad, just annoying.

Am I the only one "HUGELY irritated" by the patronising voices/accents of the three "ladies who lunch" that present Rip off Britain?

Angela Rippon, Gloria Hunniford, Jennie Bond.

They speak down to viewers as if everybody watching is an idiot... although, I suspect that are as it's such a pointless programme.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rip_Off_Britain_(TV_series)

Also, most of the subject matter's got nothing to do with "Rip Off" at all!

I think you answered your own question.

But fwiw: no, yes, yes, yes. :)
