Santa Barbara "lovely long beach, just like (I think) Morecombe"
Yosemite "just like the Peak District"

Grand Canyon "it's just like the Cheddar Gorge"
I'd like to see the Grand Canyon, but I can't be bothered to make a visit, and I've given up waiting for the Canyon to come and visit me.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Weather's wild here again tonight. Local news sites say we're on the third severe weather warning in three days... and there's a big flood alert for 3am. I am not so close to water that the flood alert concerns me though... hoping those aren't famous last words of course, but I'm sure it's fine here.
But the wind's making the gate rattle and it's really windy/gusty.
There are three severe weather warnings for right now on the weather site:
- severe wind 1am to 9am overnight tonight.
- rain
- flood.

Wot no bubonic plague??Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Makes you wonder why they bother going abroad, then!
Had to laugh about the Cheddar Gorge! If it were as big as the Grand Canyon, it'd probably take up most of Somerset! :rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

I didn't really appreciate the Grand Canyon, because my brain couldn't comprehend the scale of what I was seeing. It's not pretty, it's just grand. And bleak. I liked Yosemite a lot more. Strangely I've never felt the same way about the Cheddar Gorge.
The problem that they don't mention when you're visiting these places is that they are so far apart. So there is a lot of driving and not very much stopping and looking. Which wouldn't have been a problem if I'd visited their British alternatives. Perhaps they had a point after all. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Plus, if it were as deep, the West Country would probably split off and float away!(I just lurve spiders!)

I went to Cheddar Gorge once. I was the passenger, we went to Wooky Hole, then to Cheddar, which was rammed full of tourists... we then drove along the gorge road and, even as a passenger, you couldn't actually SEE anything as it's a narrow road that winds round and there are sheer cliff walls either side ... then you're at the other end.
Unless we missed something...
I'd not go again.0 -
