About 20 years ago, I went on a coach tour of the western states of the USA. Everywhere we went, this pair of older women who were travel companions, would compare it to somewhere else they'd been. We had:

Las Vegas "ooh, it's just like Blackpool"
    Disneyland "just like Alton Towers"
Santa Barbara "lovely long beach, just like (I think) Morecombe"
Yosemite "just like the Peak District"
    and my personal favourite:
Grand Canyon "it's just like the Cheddar Gorge"

It doesn't surprise me much that US tourists come to see European cities rather than landscapes as theirs are a bit more dramatic. But their cities are immensely more similar to each other. I doubt the US has more to see than Europe does, as our human landscape is much more diverse but our natural physical environment is more moderate and "bland" than theirs is.

I took my new motor out for a decent run today. Just on (mostly) decent A-roads and motorways for now, need to get it pretty well run in before I try it on the poxy little roads up here.

Why is Tuesday the worst day of the week?

Because my calendar goes Monday, Tuesday !!!!!!

Saw that on a t-shirt this week.

I can't often remember jokes, so it's a rare thing to get from me. Normally I'm wandering around scratching my head, thinking "what's the punchline again?'
