He does, but only British White closed cup mushrooms. Not that awful foreign stuff. :)

    Closed cup?
Nah, proper field mushrooms are far better, especially the ones that are so big you have to cut them up to even get them in the frying pan.

I've felt that I've been waiting for summer to start - and it never really did. We had some nice days, but so much rain etc and promises of heatwaves that never happened.

    Now it's over :(

I think it's been a lovely summer. We've some real belters of days here and I have had two holidays, giving us more than a month out of the country since May, but I'm finding it hard to recall when it wasn't summer. It was lovely before we left at Whitsun and the day I picked up my car in late April was glorious.

Having a convertible car is wonderful. Roof goes down far more than one would think. :). Way more fun than a big boot.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I hate convertibles, they allow you to simultaneously:
    1. Get sun burn /sun stroke
    2. Be much too hot when you are stopped in traffic
    3. Get really sore ears caused by the cold wind all the time
    4. (Look a bit like you are desperate to recapture your lost youth)
    I think....

Whereas nowadays it's news 24/7/365 - even if there isn't actually any news.

    .

Sometimes it seems as if everyone is talking at you all the time and much of it underpinned by this idea that if we just did 'x', things would be 'better'.

I keep thinking about this 'better' thing.

Everything from how to make the perfect roast, to how to take the best possible photos (BBC Countryfile), how to ride a bike to better places in a better way, how to get the kids to 'better' enjoy veg, that we must strive to make education even better, to make my garden better for bees, better for raspberry growing, I seem to be surrounded by this wall of mouths telling me so many things we need to do to arrive at betterness.

Will I know when I've finally achieved full betterness?

Are we happier than 5 years ago because we have tons of better things?

Why is the next Attenborough series always the best yet, with better dung camera angles and better insights?

Was the best ever Persil white, rubbish in 1986? Was is no good in 2002? Today it's still 'our best ever white'. Will it be even better in 2089?

I'm with DG on convertibles. Need to put on sunscreen though. And, yes, I'm desperate to hang on to something youthful.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

No he recognised him alright as he'd been working for him for quite a while, but after the guy had gone to jail, it surprised and creeped my mate out to bump into "him" (or his likeness) unexpectedly at a waxworks afterwards.
    Ah! I see!

Yes, that would freak him out!

So the Scottish Parliament convenes in a tea-shop?
