Having a convertible car is wonderful. Roof goes down far more than one would think. :). Way more fun than a big boot.[/QUOTE]

I do miss the days in summer in the VX. I suspect michaels wouldn't go for the scarf round the head ( more Audrey Hepburn thant the Queen) look, whereas for women it can look cool and keep the sun off the top of your head.

I keep thinking about this 'better' thing

Don't ever join instagram - unless it's for the dog pages, where you realise that you dog is the best in the world. As everyone else does there dog.

Apparently the world is made up of Maximisers and Satisficers. Maximisers want everything to be better. I'm a Satisficer, so I go shopping for a pair of boots and go, 'Oo they are nice' and buy them. Go out with a Maximiser and it's 'Oo, they are nice, but we'll try that shop across the square....5 hours later and back to the first shop which has then sold the pair of size 6s.....

I'm with DG on convertibles. Need to put on sunscreen though. And, yes, I'm desperate to hang on to something youthful.

May I enquire is Lady GDB younger, even by a day and then that will count. Otherwise it's down to michaels thoughts and how fast you can run.......

bugslet that reminds me of the time I went shopping with DD as she wanted a new coat. She found the ideal one in the first shop we went into, but we had to look at the coats in all the other fashion shops in the shopping centre before she went back and bought the first one :D

Sue I do hope you feel a bit better after some rest! Glad you were able to sort out a delivery x

Conrad You're right, we are always being urged to be "better". Well, surely that means someone has to remain mediocre, to provide a comparison. That'll be me, then :D

Hiya Specky, Nice to see you dropping in. Hope you and GF are ok :)

News reporters....I've noticed that the BBC ones, at any rate, never wear a hat or have the hood up on their coat, no matter how inclement the weather! I can only assume there's someone out of shot, holding an umbrella for them....

I started watching 24 hour news when the Buncefield explosion happened. My house at the time (I have moved since) was a mile away. The 24 hour news really helped me stay on top of things and know what was going on. Sky was ahead by a good two hours. I think that they deserve their "best for breaking news" moniker. I find the BBC better for in depth analysis though.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

    One would assume so - otherwise this could happen;

    "What should B do next?"

I think B will have to discuss this with A. It's all very well for D to give generic advice, but he can't know the case.

    Changing solicitors is best avoided.

    Thank you.

Nah, proper field mushrooms are far better, especially the ones that are so big you have to cut them up to even get them in the frying pan.
    :D

*Shudder*. Field mushrooms are vile - just the smell if other people are eating them puts me off. Closed cup ones are all right though - had a very nice beef stroganoff made with those in the canteen at work earlier this week. :)

Suppose you have been busy concentrating on other things and not thinking about news for a while, and so only become aware of a major news event a couple of days after it began. The breaking news is hopeless because it just gives you the latest update without the context required to understand it. In the opinion of the NP, what's the best site for catching up with "what on earth is this all about then?" questions?

In other news, I have had a small prang in my car. I turned out of a side road onto the main road and found myself behind a van that was slowing to a stop. I slowed to a stop too. He decided to park, and started reversing, presumably not having noticed that I was there. I honked my horn, and I think he braked, but not quite in time to avoid hitting me. Nobody hurt, but my car has a dented bonnet and a broken number plate, while his van has a cracked and bent rear light. He was very pleasant about swapping details, and we both photographed the damage. I reassured him that the dents lower down and over to one side on my front bumper had been there for years and weren't his concern. My insurers say we'll have to wait to see if he accepts liability or claims that I drove forwards into him before we will know how things are going to turn out. In the meantime, they are sorting me out with repairs and a hire car, and say that my 9 years of no claims will remain protected. My phone was very reluctant to talk to my laptop to transfer the photos across, but in the end I got it to upload the photos to social media site F, and I downloaded them from there to my laptop in order to attach them to an email to the insurance company. When I get round to updating my phone, I probably should sort out accessing emails from it.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

For some reason I can't quote Lydia's car problem.

Lets hope the third party is not a prat about it, I can't see how he could settle with no fault given the accident will at the least be disputed so given he is going to lose some ncb he might as well tell the truth. Hopefully if is is a prat about it you are better than me at 'letting go'.

However the hassle is not great and I don't know how sensitive you and your family are to even minor incidents.

    Hugs

DW was involved in a minor accident May 16 months ago - no sign of any settlement of that yet. We claim he pulled out onto roundabout in front of her. He claims he was already on roundabout having crossed give way line and had only stopped because there was a queue on the roundabout so when this queue moved forward he was justified in proceeding further onto the roundabout even though DW had 'right of way' coming from his right. This is where first mini roundabout leads straight on to a second min roundabout so both drivers believing the road was clear for them were looking at the traffic on this second roundabout rather than what was directly in front of them.....still given no independent witnesses of physical evidence you would have thought they would have settled it with shared responsibility by now.
    I think....

    Thanks for the hugs michaels.

I'm fine. I was stationary and he was going at "reversing into a parking space speed" so it was incredibly low impact and not scary at all. Direct Line have promised me a free hire car for the duration of the repairs to mine, so there's almost no inconvenience, and my NCB is unaffected. In fact, given that it has made me find a way to get photos off my phone and onto my computer, it's probably resulting in more good results than bad. If he disputes what happened, I'll let it go without difficulty. One of the big benefits of all the rubbish that's happened in my life over the last 14 years is a much improved ability to resist "sweating the small stuff". :)

I had similar situation, though I was the one that was already on the roundabout. I recalled seeing the offenders car coming on to the roundabout when I was already stationary in the queue. They reckoned they were on the roundabout first and I nipped around them to get into the queue of traffic. We ended up in court, playing with toy cars on the judges desk. I won, but I felt it was more on the basis that I had been driving for much longer, was going a route I travelled regularly and knew where I was going. They were younger and just going for a drive with no purpose. There was also the fact that when I queried that they hadn't called their passenger as a witness, they denied the existence of the passenger.
.....still given no independent witnesses of physical evidence you would have thought they would have settled it with shared responsibility by now.

Once it is a claim, it's a claim. May as well dispute it in the hope of it becoming a no fault claim rather than shared.
