How does PN manage two jelly sweets? That's what I want to know. I'm okay until I get started, but then I'm quite likely to finish the packet.

    Discipline and systems.

I buy a pack of jelly sweets. I can't buy them every time I go in the shop because that's how Mr Lardy finds your bum....

Once I've got the packet home I snip the top off and drop the bag into an empty box in the cupboard. At this point I allow myself a greedy 3-4 as I've just bought them, so all excited.

After that I try to only dip in and get 1-2 at a time - because I know that once they're gone they're gone and I can't replace them.

I always have to have a "gap" between treats, so I can't stock up on them because that's the slippery slope.

When treats become the norm, become what you always have in the cupboard, become what you stock up on ... then you just eat them all and consume more because they exist. And that becomes a cycle.

I have absolutely no idea how one could listen to an audiobook while driving. I've got a radio; there's a CD slot in there too, but I've no CDs.

You can buy it on CD from amazon for less that £4. Or if you get an mp3 player you can plug in a gadget into its headphone socket that sends it to your car radio (just google car mp3 fm transmitter)

Man on the telly is cooking meal worms as a meal.

Some chef bloke - meal worms bred for human consumption.

He ground them in a blender, then mixed with nuts/veggies etc, then shaped them as burgers and served them to some young farmers.

They weren't overly keen on the taste, or the "weird aftertaste" and felt it'd be a long while before they'd take off :)

Yes, they are very nutritious! And cheap and easy to 'grow'. I used to feed them to the birds by putting them on my hand; the live ones were the only thing they would fly to my hand for!
I tried them with the freeze-dried ones, but they wouldn't have them , even if I soaked them in water first!

Anyway, one day I decided to have a nibble of a freeze-dried one, and it tasted a bit like a pork scratching! :rotfl:
Couldn't have more than a nibble, as they weren't bred for human consumption. Nowt wrong with them though!

I did draw the line at nibbling a live one. I'm funny like that. I like my food dead! :)

I can't remember, so might be wrong, but I think the cost of producing them, cf that of rearing beef, lamb, pork, including in terms of Eco-ness and energy expenditure, etc. was very good.

Here's something about mealworms as food........

(Apparently live ones taste like lemon cheesecake! :rotfl:)

And here's a good paper on the sustainability of using mealworms as a source of protein...

There's a good argument that insects would be the best meat for the future. Not volunteering to test that myself.

    So that's how it happened!

Not my fault! I can blame Mr. Lardy!:A

Re. insects, it depends how they are presented.
Ground up in a burger-type thing is fine.

Fried whole beetles or spiders on your plate is another thing .

Which is daft when you think we eat prawns, and crabs which are just giant sea-'spiders'!

    And I do like escargots!

    Crazy, this mindset thing!

God help them if the ball lands in your garden!

You'll have to be forking the garden, and oops! Oh dear! Accidentally spiked your ball! :rotfl:

Seriously, though, the noise of a thudding ball is incredibly annoying.

Not sure why, because it's not all that loud.

It's probably something to do with the pitch - of the noise, that is, not where they ought to be playing ;)
