OH as just come in from taking himself for a walk. He looked the very picture of a man lost without his dog.
Aaawww. Very sad for you both, and sending positive vibes. We're cat people here, so never had the walks, but we do know the devastation when they go. Cyber hugs to you both if you feel able to accept such.0 -

I did that. "You don't know me, but according to the family tree that you put on the web 8 years previously we are 4th cousins twice removed and your missing most of my branch of the tree."
He then questioned me on bits that weren't online to check I was who I said I was. Cheeky! Anyway, having passed his security, he sent me the family tree going back to 1850. Job done with little work.
It actually left me rather unsatisfied. There is no further info available to go back in time and he had done everything going forward.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. More info is coming online all the time - Parish Records from round the country is one example... Though have to say it's a bit luck as to if the ones you want are the ones available! But more every month. Mostly transcribed by volunteers I think.
I've hit a bit of a prob with one of my lot from my Dad's family - from Scotland. Not looked for a couple of years, but couldn't find anything online then unless bought into a Scottish thing. Decided to just leave it as got plenty more to search. Really should try get on with it all a bit!0 -
I am thanking posts but the thanks are disappearing, have rethanked and some have disappeared.
OH as just come in from taking himself for a walk. He looked the very picture of a man lost without his dog.
I thanked this post only for me to return and the thanks not be there. It is as though someone is playing tricks with my mind...
Sorry to hear about DH. Is another dog on the cards? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

What is bizarre is that I thought the tree's owner's name indicated he's "one of us/my lot" - but, as it's a common name, he's actually unrelated and it's his wife who is part of the downline I was trying to find.
So he's not got a vested interest in getting it spot on and probably ran out of steam so followed the wife's unusual surname up rather than the very common name upline that I am trying to unravel.
Why don't you change your name by deed poll to something less common? That would make it much easier to research. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
The weather forecast is for a temperature of at least 2C overnight. So, why are the Barnet Council gritter lorries out tonight? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I'm really impressed by the detailed ways you have to investigate this, PN. It's a little while since I did any family history, but I doubt I'd have worked out all these tips and tricks of the trade.Had my appointment this evening (your time).
So pleased to hear the all clear, but sorry to hear about the ongoing pain etc. Good luck with the consultant on that.Pain is awful, just because you have pain arising from life saving treatment does not make it less awful.
Realism is good so long as it does not squish optimism and hope. Positive attitude rocks.
I love this post! :TThe weather forecast is for a temperature of at least 2C overnight. So, why are the Barnet Council gritter lorries out tonight?
There's a risk of ice forming on road surfaces below +3C, if I remember rightly (the display on my car 'thermometer' flashes at 3C and below, to indicate risk of ice, anyway).0 -

Find out who did what .... to who.
Who was bankrupt, who was troublesome, what were they in court for, what disasters can I find. Did they write a will, how much did they leave.
All the "stuff".
That's possible if the info is stored somewhere, available online somewhere and in English. Going back to 1850 my lot were Eastern European in places where the country boundaries have possibly moved. So I'd be looking for Russian documents from places that are now part of Poland or vice versa.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We have told the rehoming society for the breed that we would take anotherso we have to wait until one needs a new family. This is how we got Ben.
We will get a puppy, but do not want to rush into it.
Young flatcoats are little s*ds, up until about 3 years old. Plenty of energy and nerve is required. Trainable but strong and selectively deaf.
This Flattie was made famous on youtube for being naughty
