Never mind. If Aussie TV is as grim as I imagine it is, there's always distracting websites like this. SFW.
I can't watch BBC stuff at the moment.
I may or may not be investigating ways around that. The BBC may have views about the legality of me watching their programs through their website overseas.0 -

Too right!
I don't pay £150 license fee every year just for you to get a freebie out of it, watching it alongside your pool in your hot climate!
If you want to watch the BBC, move to cold England and buy a license!0 -

In the olden days you just paid the bill and got on with your life.
Too much small print these days - and lives sucked up by comparisons/swapping ...
Hear, hear! :j0 -
I think I need to see a pain management person, something like that.PasturesNew wrote: »I do hate modern life and its deals and fixed times, etc.

I've been with the same supplier for a couple of years now, and make sure I'm on their cheapest tariff. Every year I check comparison sites and see this or that supplier is marginally cheaper, but as long as it stays marginally, I don't bother to switch.
I can hear michaels tutting now.0 -

Too much information, it's all unclear (unless you understand these things), having to choose (I don't do decisions) ..... and the company I'd have guessed would be best for me (no standing charge) appear to cost more.
So, to swap, or not. And this is why people don't.
TMI.
Some you have to know about your meter .... cashback .... early exit fees (so having to look up what you're signing into). VERY complex to follow/choose and know you did the right thing.
And there, at the bottom of the list, I could just stay with BG and it's only £2/month (allegedly) more than the one that's the "biggest saving".....
So, might as well switch, but stay with BG.
I just feel we're all being sold the Emperor's new clothes all the time!
I'll leave it. Next they'll be wanting to know my customer number and other stuff I'd have to dig out of the filing cabinet.
1:27 Actually, I'll do it, just so I know what pain is involved as I've never, ever switched any company for anything to date .... too confusing/get scared and confused, so avoided.
1:28 OK, now it wants my meter number .... so I have to find the meter box key and go outside, with a bit of paper/pen.
Right, found the key, went outside, can't see any meter number, so back in here to try to get a clue. Nothing there.....
1:35 Gave up, on the phone to British Gas .... and off the phone. Nearly there now.
What a farqin faff. No wonder a lot of people don't bother.
1:45 More trouble. As I've not lived here 3 years they want to know where I previously lived - and when I moved in there. But that's not straight forward and it won't accept my answers - and if I just try to get round it, I have to choose somebody else's address as my address isn't on the drop down.
1:50 So, stuck. Can't switch as I can't give them a previous address. I'll phone BG again.
1:58 I'm now on hold, she has to find out what I should do.
There is nothing she can do for me whatsoever. She said I have to go back to the MSE site to sort it out. So b4lls to that.
To be fair, I don't think British Gas needs to be your first choice. There [STRIKE]may[/STRIKE] must be others that need less of a utility history from you. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
You mean a dominatrix, something like that?

No tutting from me, we all value our time in different ways and have different options for trading off time and income.I think....0 -
I am thanking posts but the thanks are disappearing, have rethanked and some have disappeared.

What is bizarre is that I thought the tree's owner's name indicated he's "one of us/my lot" - but, as it's a common name, he's actually unrelated and it's his wife who is part of the downline I was trying to find.
So he's not got a vested interest in getting it spot on and probably ran out of steam so followed the wife's unusual surname up rather than the very common name upline that I am trying to unravel.
I've found a few "off" on my Tree on others' versions. I'm guessing this guy is wrong and you are right. Some of the off ones in my Tree I know are wrong, some I think that I haven't researched enough yet - it's the same thing you're up against about not wanting to pay exorbitant amounts for certificates (hate to scare you, but I think they've gone up a lot in price since you last looked:eek: ).
Anyway, I have a current Ancestry all world subscription. I'd meant to reduce it to UK only but Life Happened and it auto renewed. So if you want anything (or should that be anyperson) looking up or checking I'd be happy to give it a whirl. Might take a bit of time depending on getting arm cut to pieces, dental problems and possible caravan trips... :rotfl: Though we do have internet at caravan, so if it chucks it down with rain when we're there it'll give me something to do! :rotfl: PM me if I might be able to help.
