... not spend ages ...
It always felt grown up.
I discovered, 5 years ago, that mum would follow us and hide in hedges, just watching we were OK.....
Do you have any sneaky vantage points where you can spy on him, watch his progress, then still beat him home?0 -
It just goes to show that, even if you've paid them fortunes, you can't trust "experts".
There's a man with a well-known local name who has been studying/doing family history for decades (not checked his actual age, but let's say 40 years). He lives in the village; he lives 3-4 miles from the records office; he's been a paid researcher for decades (my aunt posted once that she'd paid him for information she later found to be erroneous) .... he is the "head/face" of the local family history group, that's been running decades.
This is a small village/hamlet - think in terms of 500+ people.
His group raised funds to buy a small building and they have an actual museum, that's stuffed full of lists/information etc and they have big trees on their PCs and will do (paid for) lookups for you and tree print outs.
So, how come, this morning, when I loaded his own family page and tried to follow his story .... that started with a name-of-interest to me ... I've instantly spotted huge/basic errors. e.g. a wedding year being wrong by 2 years, even though the OPC has a transcription of it for '45 and the Visitation (official publication) has it listed as '45 and his site says '43!!
I can accept it where he says there were 14 kids born and there are only 4 listed in the parish registers as I figure he's had a lifetime of collecting, holding, collating a huge assortment of private letters/information from dozens of people over time .... but how can he get the marriage date so wrong?
I think he must live in a fairyland where he makes the story fit what he wants to believe.
And that's not the only error I've found in the first 2 paragraphs of his waffle. Maybe he does it to "catch out" information thieves.
I just read stuff like that for "contrast/compare/analyse and decide for myself"0 -
Debating what to do with an email I've received this morning......💙💛 💔0

You're supposed to go to work and they do the "non work" stuff - fitting it in between cushion plumping, cupcake baking and watching JK.
I think the latter takes up all the time that isn't spent on chavtastic shopping trips for things we don't need, can't afford and have nowhere to storeDoozergirl wrote: »It seems to have taken off this year that people are just posting pics of their kids going back to the same school they were at, where it used to be 'new school' pics.

Josh put a picture of youngest (well his back as he was walking away at the time) up on snap chat to take the pee out of all the back to school pictures. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Hope DD has a good day Doozergirl
Does her school do the thing where the Year 7 children start a day before everyone else so they can start finding their way around in peace?
We're looking after the DGC after school today as their Dad has a Uni lecture to go to this afternoon. Last year I was walking along the road to meet DGS outside school simply because we both enjoyed it (the school's very close to home), but as he's in year 6 now he's opted to come home on his own. I just hope he does remember to come straight home, and not spend ages chatting to his friends so that I think he's been abducted.
His sister's school comes out slightly later, so her childminder will drop her off at home so that we don't have to go to the childminder's house to collect her later.
Sorry, what an incredibly boring thing to tell you
No, it's not, Ivyleaf!
It's quite nice hearing normal stuff!
Besides, I often catch myself just typing random thoughts, as if I'm working it all out on the post!
I think the nice thing about this thread is that it is just like a group of people chatting away. All sorts of things pop into the mix!(I just lurve spiders!)

No; I can see his classroom window from his bedroom window but that's not much helpSeriously, it takes only a couple of minutes to get to and fro, he'll be fine.
Once, he forgot he was meant to go to after-school club that day, and finding no one home when he arrived he got the spare key from the neighbours and was happily playing on the iPad when we arrived home with his younger sister.
Doozergirl No, no phone yet. I expect he'll need one next year though *rolls eyes*
silvercar I love the idea of the invisible kids :rotfl:
Their father has just texted asking me to tell them swimming club has been cancelled this evening. Can't wait to see if they're pleased or dismayed! Probably the former, as the first day back's always a bit tiring, with a new teacher and classroom to get used to.0 -

Just found another miracle baby in a tree.
I am cross-referencing many resources. If I find a tree online for somebody then I'll add a comment to the spreadsheet and see if it tells me anything I didn't know.
Just found one that looked all nice and neat; too neat. Then I spotted that the father died in 1729 and the baby was born in 1733. So he's clearly not the father... but it then means the whole tree is probably entirely wrong and nothing that person says can be trusted.
Shame. I've 3 villages of 400 idiots, all of whom called their kids the same names and all of whom intermarried and (only sometimes) used the mother's maiden name as their middle name. Indeed, it's written that there were so many of these people that they even stopped using their real names and only used nicknames (sometimes their wife's maiden name).
It's the sort of tree nobody could ever solve.... but I'd like to see if I can get just one small glimmer of hope/fact. I have an "S", son of "S". But which "S" is he the son of?
You really need to be part of the Will Leaving Classes to stand much chance in the 1700s & 1800s.0
