It's they way things have been going. Most pubs that used to do affordable square meals at lunchtime are now re-branded as gastro-pubs charging £10 for a hamburger on a hard-to-imagine-how-they-clean-it plank of wood. That's £10 for what's basically a mince sandwich. Is the rest of the UK like this?

    Gosh, floods in London?
It's been sunny all day, though it is rather humid now. :(

I got home just in time to get a fabulous view of the ISS transit, across a perfectly clear sky, accompanied by a waxing crescent moon, plus Jupiter and Mars.
(Well, only the ISS was transiting, the moon and planet were pretty much stationary! :D)

I'm guessing that the K stands for King and the S stands for school. By dint of the fact there were rather a lot of them, E= Edward?

And perhaps it was once a Grammar school, and/or Direct Grant school that turned private when the Direct Grant thing was abolished?

It's been sunny here too, although raining on/off for the last few hours (well, since I came home at about 6pm)

Where in London? That sounds not good.

My school went the other way, in that it was previously a Grammar school, and turned into a Comprehensive before I joined.

Twas King Edward VI School, Southampton. And, yes, there are quite a few of them, 17 according to a list on Wikipedia.

It was a grammar when I started and went fee-paying during my time there. However the Local Education Authority paid the fees for pupils who were already there at that point, up until they left, so I didn't have to transfer to another school.

michaels, presumably went to a different school in Southampton. Since this is the nice people thread, I'm guessing it wasn't Bellemoor, even with the "posh alert" crack ;)

I was mightily annoyed at having to bring it in, as I had to make a guess as to whether the spots would become torrential or just stop ... they stopped soon after I'd got all the washing back in off the line!

    That's not annoying.

What is annoying was to wake up this morning to find that, after all my work on the veggie patch and after three months without any sign of it, a blasted mole has been at work - but not under the side lawn as before.

Oh no, the little s*d has shoved a load of the sandy subsoil up through and over the nice tidy layer of compost that I left over the veggie patch when I'd finished yesterday

I'm somewhat further now - if I choose to go back to heritage railway volunteering it'll have to be the Lakeside & Haverthwaite or Ravenglass & Eskdale now. Ropley's a tad far to go ;)

I live what might as well be a million miles from the Watercress Line.

The weather was lovely if a bit nippy. 19C and sunny. It's cooling down now though so the heating will be on in a bit. It's 17C at most now I reckon.

I just accidentally let about 10,000 litres (21,000 pints for PN) of water out of my pool. Oops.

I don't know if any of the Nice People have heard this version of Yesterday by The Beatles:
