There is a notable lack of sympathy for the family that owned a beachside home with a pool in the back yard!!!! I think they should be fined for littering the beach with it quite frankly. It's disgraceful.
Was (past tense intentional) the back yard between the house and the sea or on the landward side of the house?0 -
No, I grew up in Southampton - but the Watercress Line was only about 20 or so miles away.
I used to head up there straight from work on Fridays and works there all weekend - sometimes it was still Sunday when I got home again
Which sixth form did you go to?This is a suburb up from Colloroy on the same bit of sand:

Divide by two for the price in squids.
Bear in mind that door to desk if you work in the centre of Sydney that's 90 mins in a town where a 30-40 minute commute is seen as the maximum reasonable. It would be a bit like living in Tunbridge Wells in England: a nice place but a hell of a flog into work.
Don't recall the beach at Tunbridge Wells looking quite like that one....I think....0 -

I believe in that part of Collory the set up was thus:
HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE
===================
ROAD ROAD ROAD ROAD ROAD
===================
HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE
===================
BEACH BEACH BEACH BEACH
OCEAN OCEAN OCEAN OCEAN
Almost always (maybe actually always) a Sydney oceanside beach suburb is set up thus:
HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE
===================
ROAD ROAD ROAD ROAD ROAD
===================
CARPARKS AND SCRUBBY STUFF
BEACH BEACH BEACH BEACH
OCEAN OCEAN OCEAN OCEAN
So the court case back in the 80s was to turn the scrubby stuff (which lots of animals and birds quite like living in) into houses. Normally when there is a massive storm the scrubby stuff has a bad time but that's a part of what naturally happens. If some twit builds on that bit of beach verge then they are taking a risk. I have no problem with people taking risks but if they want the upside (6am surfing on tap) then they also need to take the downside (house last seen heading for Brazil).
Sucks to be you as we say in these parts.0 -

Indeed - natural sea defences. In some parts of East Anglia the decision has been taken to stop pouring more money into maintaining the sea walls but to breach them deliberately and let the salt marshes do the job naturally, like they had done for centuries before the walls were built.If some twit builds on that bit of beach verge then they are taking a risk. They could get lucky, it could drift a little southwards of east and wash up in NZ instead :rotfl:0 -
I like the part of the description which reads "Enjoy watching the waves roll-in" - after all, it doesn't say how far they roll in :rotfl:
As Otis Redding didn't sing:
Sitting on the dock of the bay,
Watchin' my house roll away.
I've not listened to Otis for years!
