I hated the MRI scan. Very uncomfortable getting heated up by the machine for nearly an hour. Funny that, as other people sail through them.

I had an MRI about a year ago. I had the fear of God put into me before hand. When I got into it I had to repress my laughter as the noise made me think of a sound effect from a 1960s Sci-Fi dystopia.

Then I fell asleep and snoozed through most of it.

I can see how people would find it very unpleasant but I just found it funny in the end.

We pay $2.10 (a quid or so) per kilolitre. There is no choice of provider, you either use Sydney Water or harvest falls from the sky.

On my last metered statement, I was paying a little bit more than that for the water - plus about twice as much again to give them some of it back for treatment.

It's they way things have been going. Most pubs that used to do affordable square meals at lunchtime are now re-branded as gastro-pubs charging £10 for a hamburger on a hard-to-imagine-how-they-clean-it plank of wood. That's £10 for what's basically a mince sandwich. Is the rest of the UK like this?

I think most of the UK is like that. Gentrification of everything leads to bigger profits for bosses.

Serve a burger on a plate for £4 and you'll work your nuts off selling 20 and making £20 profit.

Serve an organic handcrafted burger in a gluten free bread roll with a kale and chia seeds side salad for £10 and you'll sell 4 and still make £20 profit.

So, work less to earn the same.... increased "pay per effort" for the boss.

Earn £20 for a lot of work, or not a lot of work ...

We pay rates, a fixed amount for the house, for what we send back. As a tenant I don't pay rates.

I pay for usage as long as the landlord puts in mandated water saving measures.

I'd be keen to see similar laws brought in regarding energy use in the UK: tenants pay for gas/electricity but only if the LL ensures that mandated insulation is in place.

Meanwhile, you've got 16 people who are priced-out of the enjoyment of eating out.

Or 16 people who simply won't bother gracing your doors.

There was a pub in Rydal that did decent lunchtime meals at reasonable prices. Then the landlord changed, the menu acquired all sorts of fancy "waxing lyrical" descriptions, the portions went down and the prices went up.

Even though I can afford it (so I haven't been priced out), it's not what I want so they've lost my custom.

In the UK, metered water supply assumes that a proportion goes back as waste - 92.5% for Southern Water. So we get charged for 100% of the metered quantity as supply and 92.5% of it as waste.
Unmetered is based on the rateable value of the property, dunno how they break it down between supply and waste.

I think at soem point fr new tenancies landlords will soon have to reach a certain level on the EPC. Apparently it is a big issue for some conservation area/listed buildings where you are basically not allowed to do what is required to bring them up to the standard.

MY company 'home' office is in nondescript C20 building that has metal windows but the local council takes pride in not alllowing any of the buildings in the slightly non-descript town centre fit double glazing even if it is in keeping - crazy.
    I think....

We missed all the storms and rain yesterday, sun all day with not a cloud in the sky. James was incredibly lucky though, he came through London yesterday on his way home just before the storms and flooding, just one train later in Wycombe would have made all the difference.

Youngest got another distinction in a unit, think this one was a relief to him as he wasn't too sure he had covered what had needed to be done (the brief was rather sketchy)..mind you, he handed in the equivalent of a middle sized tree in paper!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

No, I've actually just poured about 1/6th of my swimming pool down the drain. That's $22 (£11) worth of water I just chucked away.

I was wondering, though. How does the cost of cleaning the water, filtering, pumping it back, to recycle it,etc., compare with the cost of just putting fresh water in?
Thinking about the electricity, maintenance of the filters, pumps etc.

    Here are south west's charges:
    http://southwestwater.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/172/~/how-much-water-is-a-cubic-metre-and-how-much-does-it-cost%3F
Looks a lot more. £2 for water, over £3 for sewerage.

    So now £5/m3

Or ½p per litre - how much do shops charge for putting a litre in a bottle and sticking a label on it?
