Viva, that's not nice, but the credit card company should simply reverse the unauthorised transaction. Plus the tablets, whatever they are, are covered by the unsolicited goods act. The bank will probably want to issue a replacement card with a different number.

When MIL handed over her card and PIN to fraudsters, the bank were remarkably good about reimbursing her. But it did knock her confidence terribly.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

There's a big row in Sheringham about the town crier.

'Sheringham Town Council went in to private session to discuss the future of its town crier role after emotions erupted during this month’s public meeting when the idea of a merger was mooted.'

Apparently, nobody can be found to take on the role. So, there's more sense around than I expected. :)

The farthest I ever used to go on a Bank Holiday weekend in England was to the second pub down the road.
obviously something wrong with the 1st pub then...

in our very first life...we packed up the caravan with our three little darlings late Thursday evening if it was Easter, or late evening the day before most people get on the roads for a Bank job... and normally headed for Winchelsea Beach Camping Site near Rye and Pett Level. As we would be too late to actually get on the camp site we would sneek into the Hastings Country Park for the night saving a night fee as well...bonus...The Park Ranger would arrive early to move us on...no problem with that:p
Come rain come shine we went off with our Caravan to the coast.

That was freaky. The ground is now all wet and it's freezing, 16C or something.

I've Googled this umbrella thing you mentioned and it looks pretty neat, like a portable sunshade or something. I've ordered a couple to keep with the little stash of tinned food and bottled water I save for just in case the worst happens. I don't want to be taking any risks with this stuff. If water can fall out of the sky and blot out the sun,

Could be worse, could be dihydrogen monoxide falling - now that really is nasty stuff.

we have had a few occasions of fraud over the years but paying by credit card the issues have always been sorted out quickly. One occasion was traced back to a French Fuel station in the 80's and the fraud took place in the USA. Our bank alerted us on that occasion. Another time was using Amazon Uk from France but sorted out the same day by Phone there again Credit Card used. I understand Debit Cards often do not have the same protection...regards Dianne

Ah yeah, I know the stuff. We buy it to put in the pool.

Apparently some people drink it in place of beer or gin. There are some funny people out there.

Flippin' 'eck, you're further north than I'd taken "SWFrance" to include - that's my parents' old stamping ground when they lived over there.
Civray was their nearest reasonable size town.

I have no idea what they are (or how to pronounce them) .... never heard of them. I can therefore assume it's booze and not food. I never go into the booze aisle. You old soak!

    LOL, they are towns ;)

I don't know about this one, but maybe it's because at the cannon fodder end of the spectrum nobody can fail so long as they write their name on the paper.

Having "nobody fails" exams then waters down the achievement of those who get the highest results in the country/ever.

GCSEs were like that. With O levels and CSE you (your teachers) had to choose which one you were doing. If you chose O level and got a D you'd failed. If you chose CSE and got an A you could've got an O level. So they brought in the GCSE... nobody fails, you just get different marks.

I arrived in London just as GCSEs were coming in. I'd heard of O levels and never heard of CSEs. I was gobsmacked at how many parallel exam boards there - about half the country must have been working for them!

I started teaching BTEC about 30 years ago - but I think there were two boards then called BEC and TEC. (also City & Guilds and RSA qualifications). They got rid of it then brought it back. It's a fine course but immensely bureaucratic.

For the best students it's phenomenally good. Sue's youngest sounds like he's earned a top grade and I'm delighted to read her news about him. :T
