Er, that one was a joke ;)

But it's supposed to be a song competition! :(

(I know, I know; it ceased being that a long time ago). :(

It should really be called The Eurovision Song/SexyArtist/OutlandishCostume/SpecialStageEffects Contest

    Correction:
It should really be called The Eurovision Song/SexyArtist/OutlandishCostume/SpecialStageEffects/What's YourPoliticalAgenda Contest

The jury votes more accurately reflect what people thought of the song. UK.could definitely have done more on staging though.

I think the rules on political songs will be much more strongly interpreted next year so that we don't go into a downward spiral in which songs about history are used as a technique to win. I don't want to hear songs about the division of Cyprus, or Soviet control of the Baltics, or the French Resistance, or the Turkish genocide in Armenia... that would be highly cynical. Hopefully the genie has not been let out of the bottle.

Still to lighten the mood, my favourite ever Eurovision contestant and costume was Ukraine in 2007, dressed as something that would make your microwave explode.

Pastures: I could change direction at the very top of the stairs, carpet guy thought that wasn't quite a good option as the main part of the landing would not look right, as opposed to having the extension part not looking right. But I am unsure.

The wimp option is to replace with similar to what we have now.

Ooh no, don't go back to beige! I thought the stripey one in the photo looked great! And yes, I agree with the carpet layer. It would look wrong to change direction at the top of the stairs, and the way it's done in the photo looks fine. The stripes really enlarge the area! Go for it!

Edit. If your walls are plain, why not go for a colour stripe? Rather than neutral? Jazz the hall up a bit! Make a statement! First impression for anyone coming into your house would be wow!

There's too much beige in the world! :D

Lordi were great. Maybe Georgia should have dressed like that. They would have got 12 from the UK public as well as the UK jury that way.

Twas Lordi, the heavy rockers ;)

As heavy rockers go they weren't by any means the best, but I liked the way they took the wee-wee out of the established "invented" pop - and won :rotfl:

Silver, on the subject of carpet... we have a patterned carpet rather than stripes. Our stairs turn twice, which I think is the same as you, though with only one landing.

The carpet layer has done the same here as in the photo I clicked on, and the same as recommended by your carpet fitter. It would look strange the other way.

Having lived with this monstrosity since we moved in ten years ago, we'd definitely go for plain next, though the stripes you are considering are lovely.

Plain also shows up stains much more than stripes would, which is an important factor for the hall in particular.

Just listened to Lordi's song. I quite like it! But then I prefer songs with a strong beat to all the wishy-washy ones we're usually subjected to on Eurovision.
