I took the Generalissimos to see Angry Birds The Movie today. It was terrible although they enjoyed it. It's the worst film I've seen in a long time. .
Another glorious day today: warm (hot to you lot) and sunny and mostly cloudless.
When my kids were young enough to need me to take them to the picture shows, as I'm sure we called them, the standard of movie was frequently appalling. There was one cartoon about preposterous collectible card animals bred for fighting and designed by a team of foreign psychologists to get kids hooked. The kids stared at the screen entranced, which is a good thing I suppose.
Every adult in the cinema looked as though they were just about to shriek with boredom. Longest hour and a half of my life.:mad:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I was appalled when Ol' Pa Generali told me after seeing Flash Gordon (the one with the Queen soundtrack) that he basically hated all the films he took me to apart from that one. I had just assumed that he was having fun too.
Lots of the films I take the kids to these days I genuinely enjoy, Kung Fu Panda 3 the other week was a lot of fun for example.0 -
Was Hard Rock Hallelujah really 10 years ago?
My daughter loved them - from before their Eurovision days. We all had to vote for Lordi. Think it's the only time I have watched Eurovision.
For those who like heavy metal with a twist, and especially those who appreciate the cello, try Apocalyptica.0 -
The stairs have a full turn and then the first part of the landing is a continuation of that, so the stripes are running in the same direction. Then the landing turns to the left and right ie a T in both directions.
Like this but imagine there is also a long stretch to the right.
The carpet guy reckons it is better to go with the flow up the stairs and accept that the long narrow bit that is to the right will look more long and narrow by having the stripes unchanged (so your are walking across them) than to have the stripes change direction at the top of the stairs.
I think I'd be heartily wishing I hadn't chosen stripes....I bet it will look lovely when it's done, though0 -

I think it looks lovely!
Is anyone on here Finnish?
Well, I never thought it would happen! I googled Apocalyptica and clicked on one of their Youtube things, then sighed as I thought I'd have to wait the 5 seconds as usual before I could skip the ad, yawn, and see the video.
However, I was kept glued to it! The ad, that is! That's never happened with an online ad before! Mostly because I was intrigued to see where it was going/what it was advertising, as from the start it obviously wasn't advertising what you thought it was. I usually find ads intensely irritating.
It's here, and I won't tell you what it is advertising! Quite clever, actually. Hats off to them for making me watch it!
Oh, and I liked the heavy rock cello!:D

No, but said daughter works as a translator for Finnish (as well as Swedish, some Danish and some Norwegian...) into English.
She has lived/studied/worked in Finland. Loves it there.
That's one place I'd like to go!
I'd also like to explore the language, it being such an unusual one an' all!(I just lurve spiders!)

Apparently daughter is planning on learning Estonian next, since it has similarities with Finnish.
As you do.0 -
Pyxis I saw that ad on TV last night. Good, isn't it!
Re Eurovision, I remember one year it was won by a lady in a skimpy costume that I think was leather/supposed to be wolfskin, with a group of male backing dancers. I think that one may have been Ukraine? At any rate I remember Terry Wogan shouting "Hurrah for Xena, Warrior Princess!"0 -
Missed this article from last month until today. Interesting slightly tongue in cheek article about a market that we don't often think about. The author believes that "peak tattoo" will occur in 2025, after which there will be a need for tattoo removal clinics:
