And surely the NPT is not about what we have/earn, but what is inside us.

Can't quite believe that.
We have one friend who is seriously wealthy, all due to him working very hard and very well (if that makes a difference);he is generous to charities. I do hear occasional snipes that "he can afford it" etc but it misses the point that he doesn't have to give anything, but chooses to.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Just screenied it from friend's FB.
She took the photo, so that's the view from her seat.
I'm currently at home, waiting for the washing machine to finish as OH has no clean uniform shirts, before going to bed.
I'll be in Cambridge tomorrow morning, so still closer to Stockholm than here💙💛 💔0 -

To sort something for the business, and then for lunch with a friend at a nice cafe I found on jury service, close to the court💙💛 💔0 -

If it's the one right in town (not sure if it's still there, or moved), then a cafe could be anywhere
My favourite place has closed down.... it had been going donkeys' years.
So much of what I used to know's been demolished too .... I wouldn't know any of the shops these days if I went back! It's all changed.
Yes, the Crown court opposite the Grafton centre💙💛 💔0 -

As a renter that money's always "thrown away". At least, when buying, you're securing your 'tenancy' and can make changes and live there as long as you like. As for getting money back .... if the house value rises, then you do.
renters can make reasonable changes I never object to them just most renters are short term so wont want to make changes. Most renters are so short term minded they wont even clean the oven once in a whole year but maybe thats just my customers who mostly tend to be in their later 20sRentals need work to be livable, work the LL never does
There is a market price for both types of property.
Here you can rent an ok flat for £2k, a carp one for £1.8k or a nice one for £2.2k that is the market offering different level products just like you can buy a panda for £6k or a Jag for £60k
If you opt for the cheaper option thats a choice you make.
Although it would be nice to have the £2.2k flat for the £1.8k price life doesnt work that wayThe point I was trying to say was that a (poor) renter can't easily move as you need 4-6 months' rent in your pocket to achieve it in a lot of instances. Can't afford where you're living? Move .... except you can't. My £2500 to get the keys was for a £600/month place, without a single day of overlap from where I was moving from.
A poor owner cant afford to move frequently either. A fairly rich owner cant nowadays at close to £20k a move (in London)!Re stamp duty ... you've quoted £30k. That's a house buying budget of £800k!!
Yes it should have been closer to £15k for the average London property stamp duty. A crazy sum to move house0 -

To me it sounded more like you were unhappy that agents charge so much and that landlord ask for a deposit.
I was trying to point out that fees need to be paid whatever route you take. Agents charging £200 for references and drawing up a contract seems a ok deal compared to £2000 for solicitors doing references and drawing up contracts.
Regarding deposits I think landlords would be ok taking on lower deposits if they could evict non paying tenants faster and at lower cost.0 -
We went to see our tax agent today and he got us a $5,200 refund!
In turn that pushes us over the edge so we can afford to buy a house0
