In short, where we wandered from was:

    Silver said: tenant/can't afford it.
PN said: can see why they're stuck even if they want to move they can't because it's more expensive to move than it is to pay the rent you can't afford.

This 20 times over. But add to the can't afford to move, even if they could afford to move a private landlord would be unlikely to touch them - no job, no guarantor.

My single parent friend may well have much money washing through her account but I know that she spends up to her income. She has an old knacker of a car and when it breaks down she has to ask her Mum to help her out pro tem.
With her ex being in clink she presumably gets zilch from him in child support. So, please don't assume that a single person has it so much worse than someone like her. It's tough either way. And either way, the taxpayers are coughing up whichever way we look at it.

I like her, she's a friend, but can't help but think that she has made many poor choices in her life. We all do, none of us is above criticism, but some make more than others, I fear.
ETA, re kids in schools: she has kept her three in their existing schools. But she knows that from September she will have to move them.

She still will want a 2nd mastectomy sometime as soon as but has to get processed for that as it is deemed quite differently. She is a life and soul of the party type young lady with lots of good friends that support her likewise her hubby has been a rock....dont have to kill him after all.....
