My mum gets on brilliantly with her Ipad, best thing she has ever bought she says. Dad has even got in tune with it and if he thinks of something, he usually says "Ivy darling, can you just check on your I thingy, you know your computery pad thing, what the latest score for Leyton Orient is please"We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

It's not so bad as I don't think anyone can begrudge Leicester winning the league this year. What did for Tottingham was that long run without defeat where we drew a lot of games.
We've got a decent side and a good manager. As long as we keep most of the side together we should have a decent season next year too.
Next year should be interesting as the new TV deal kicks in so the Champions League/merchandising advantage is a lot smaller than in previous years. What will get interesting is if Man U/Liverpool/The A....... or whatever start to get threatened with being knocked off their perch. They already pushed through FFP to stop other teams 'doing a Chelsea' and competing with them. What comes next?
What comes next could be the real twist in the tale of this season. The EPL is on the verge of becoming the NBA of the soccer world. If one of the bigger teams gets knocked down a bit do they remain in the big pond or take a risk and try to move to something like a European league?0 -

Both Tottenham and Leicester could see the same problems next year, which arise purely because of success.
Competing in European competitions alongside domestic is something which takes clubs a few years to adapt to. It has certainly taken Man City some time to cope.
Chelsea will be unencumbered with such problems. With a new manager, and money to spend, and an uncongested schedule, they could do pretty well.0 -

Well next year could be interesting. Teams like Tottenham and Liverpool will have far higher player budgets than everyone except probably Real, Barca, PSG and Bayern Muchen.
Even as things stand, for 2014-5 even West Ham and Newcastle make the top 20 clubs by revenue across Europe. Swansea, Palace and West Brom make the top 30!!!!

Now I realise that revenue is a pretty silly way to rank football clubs as obviously there's the cost side too. For Barca just operating their 100,000 seater stadium is going to be plenty more than it is for Tottenham to run 36,000 seat Lane. Still it's the only tool I have to hand an when all you have is a hammer every problem looks like a nail!
Interesting times for football. I wonder if Abramovich and Mansour have accidentally saved English football from itself. Without them Man Utd would be winning almost every year with the odd guest appearance from The !!!!*al. Maybe that money those two have spent has lifted all the boats to the extent that the money it has drawn into football means that all get to benefit.0 -
Gen What does FFP stand for? To my astonishment my OH doesn't know
Sue That sounds good, maybe I should start saving up for an iPad then0 -
Financial Fair Play - basically as a football team owner you can no longer just purchase success at any cost (a la Abramowich/Chelski etc), instead the books must vaguely balance.I think....0

As michaels says it stands for Financial Fair Play, a rule designed to prevent 'financial doping'.
'Financial Doping', or investment as it is known in other industries, is where you buy up talented workers and build better facilities in order to compete with established incumbents in the market.
FFP was introduced by UEFA, the governing body of European football, in order to maintain the status quo and prevent newer clubs outperforming the established rich teams.0 -
There was a piece about someone trying to come up with an analogy for Leicester winning the premier league in US sport and basically it was impossible as:
1) They don't have leagues with promotion / relegation
2) They have a structure with things like the worst performing teams getting first draft picks that are deliberately structured to even things out.I think....0 -

Where does West Ham's deal to lease a fantastic new stadium for just £2.5m per annum sit on the FFP scale?
How has that gone down with the Spuds?
I was asking a friend about the Man City deal. He believes that the way it works is the council get a percentage of gate receipts of attendance above a set figure (something like 30K or so). The more they sell out, the better the council does.0
