We'd be sorry to lose BBC4 - we don't watch it every day, but do watch fairly often.

We enjoy a lot of their history/arts programmes and things like Scandi drama. And Spiral was good, though that's French rather than Scandi. We loved Borgen. Who'd have thought a story about Danish politics could be so riveting?
Won't watch it tonight though; tonight's offerings are mostly about rock'n'roll.

I can see BBC4 might be superfluous for people with channels like Sky Arts, but we haven't got Sky.

Doozergirl - Glad to hear your document came to light in the end :)

I thought that the BBC was a fantastic social invention. It upsets me that its resemblance to a socially-owned service makes it extremely politically/economically incorrect in this modern era where we obsess with costs and ignore value. :(

I would seek to keep it too, but I do think it is hard to make a case for the licence fee when it has consistently launched new bits. I would rather have a smaller more "core" BBC, as we had previously. I worry that in its current form, it's an easy target. I'd hate to see it commercialised, or worse still, culled.

In terms of BBC4 content, I think the good stuff has a natural home on BBC2. More documentary type regular content could also move to News 24, alongside the likes of Click or Reporters. (People seemed to Like News 24).

Just cooked 20 portions of mince (will be lasagne and spag bol during the week) and also currently cooking chicken for 8 (16 pieces) and mash and veg for 8 - all feeling a bit industrial tbh.

Last 2 Germans were 'high school', these 3 are 'technical College' - big difference it seems.

Not sure about the BBC, it does seem to do try too much but then again it is probably the best place to go to be certain that you are not trying to be sold something when looking for impartial info and of course we all know its biases so can filter the info it provides accordingly. With so many delivery channels available nowadays does it even make sense to have a national 'point of reference' media source? Do we also end up with an organisation where because it is not commercial things get a bit silly when trying to be PC and value for money is forgotten?

just cooked 20 portions of mince (will be lasagne and spag bol) well done you... I do that in smaller portions and also use it for Shepherds Pie with cheese on top..just add different herbs and veggies to alter the mix..freeze it here and can turn out meals at a whim even a cornish pastie can be used for the mix of mince etc....have visitors wed for a whole week so will be doing just what you have done in lesser portions though.
bought a multi cooker recently mainly for cooking stewed steak that takes hours and hours in the soven but can be tneder in 40 mins also used for loads of other stuff...slow cooker pressure cooker and 3 others methods as well was 99£ but love it...enjoy your students....

I made a SC soup earlier in the week, took a portion that day as veg stew, mashed up the rest and decanted it .... gave up today and decided to lob it into the freezer (2 portions) as I was simply not getting round to it.

Anybody else watching this Millionaires' Mansions programmes? The expensive/unnecessary fripperies millionaires buy - and the people who provide them with it all.

People "at that level", designers, sourcers, the rich, don't 'arf talk a lot of mumbo jumbo about the product.

One woman's renovated, at a cost of millions over a few years, a big mansion - and now she wants to "celebrate the completion of the ground floor by having her own signature fragrance created, in the form of candles" (minimum order 500).... base price of getting a fragrance is £25k.

I'm flying Lufthansa tomorrow. They list the things you can't carry on board in pictorial form. Here's one of their pictures:

    Thank goodness they told us!

I always get my students to email work to themselves as a backup. It's such a simple strategy that it reveals who hasn't done the work at all, as their excuses have to become very baroque and convoluted. It also rarely goes wrong.

Youngest saves to the cloud, his usb drive thingy AND emails them to himself (and sometimes me too).

I think I went overboard with my mantra of "Always have a back up" :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You can never have too many backups.

Back to the bbc - does anyone else find the bbc news websites takeover by video clips annoying. I prefer my news in succinct text not just a few vids with limited info for the youtube generation. They cut the fact/background content of articles a few years ago and now this - it is like a video version of a tabloid. No doubt it is much cheaper to produce but the more our media outlets treat us as low iq infotainment fodder the less chance that 'the ruling class' will ever be held accountable :(
    I think....
